Mosaic Bistro & Pub in Chamblee has sadly closed after less than a year in business. The restaurant opened this past October and was the next act of sorts for Chef Joey Riley who for thirteen years been chef and co-owner of Brookhaven's Kaleidoscope Bistro & Pub before its closure in February 2024.
The restaurant closed as of May 30 indicating at the time the closure was meant to be temporary until significant [disruptive] construction work along Malone Drive was completed.
Chef Riley posted an update to the restaurant's official Facebook page Tuesday afternoon confirming the closure would instead be permanent.
"It saddens me deeply to say that Mosaic Bistro & Pub will be closing for good.
We are heartbroken, but despite giving it everything we had, we simply could not overcome the obstacles we faced from the very beginning. While this chapter is ending far sooner than we ever hoped, we will always be grateful for the incredible support, encouragement, and love our community showed us.
Our time may have been short, but it was truly meaningful. We made memories, built friendships, and had the privilege of serving so many wonderful people. For that, I will be forever thankful," the statement said in part.
While Mosaic has closed, Confab Kitchen & Bar, from fellow former Kaleidoscope business partner Doug Gross, remains open and would no doubt welcome the opportunity to serve any and all guests. Confab opened in July 2025 and is located at 1350 Dresden Drive in the street level of the Parkside on Dresden apartment community in Brookhaven.
Did you ever dine at Mosaic Bistro & Pub? What is your favorite Chamblee area restaurant? Have you been to Confab Kitchen & Bar?

All of these short lived restaurants make me think that the people opening them have not done a full business plan and budget projections for at least a full year of operation. If they do, then they aren’t building in enough of a contingency budget to ride through unexpected expenses. If they had done proper due diligence, they would realize the numbers just don’t work in today’s cost environment and a lot of investment dollars wouldn’t be lost.
ReplyDeleteSuch dummies! You should do it! I bet it would be the most successful restaurant in the world!
DeleteJust damn! 7:59PM seems to not want anyone to have an opinion or insight. Go troll somewhere else.
DeleteMy opinion is that this place sucks
DeleteI think it’s that but also “Atlanta” is disaster of a place to live and work. You literally have 4 places in the same block doing the same thing and then a huge chain will open as a the 5th. Everyone loses. Other cities have figured out how keep quality places around, Atlanta hasn’t.
DeleteIt's always sad to hear about a local restaurant closing, especially one that meant something to the community. Wishing Joey Riley and the entire team the very best in whatever comes next, and thanks for sharing the story behind this chapter.
ReplyDeleteDid Confab sponsor this post?
ReplyDeleteCorn-fab
DeleteIt was a bad location, period... A 55+ apartment community? Seriously? The alcohol program, menu, and lay out of the restaurant isn't conducive to 55+ year old diners. The location was bad even without it being in a 55+ apartment community. The layout was horrible. You would think Joey would've known better. The landlord HAD TO give him a hell of a deal to open a restaurant there.
ReplyDeleteSuch an idiot, sheesh!
DeleteI really like the people that work there but the food was never where it needed to be to survive outside of the sports bar category. their wild success in brookhaven was because they had an awesome patio, a ton of foot traffic and the only good place in the neighborhood to watch games. i know they were essentially forced to move since rent was no longer attainable but still.. if they tried the same concept in the location Confab is they'd still be going gangbusters.
ReplyDeleteWe are deeply saddened to hear this news! The staff at Mosaic were so personable and the food was fantastic. As someone who works shifted hours, it is rare to have a spot up in Chamblee/ Brookhaven where we can get dinner until midnight. Mosaic, you will be missed!
ReplyDeleteTerrible idea from the start. A senior community is not the spot for this.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the right spot? Open one up there and make it successful for 50 years!
DeleteAt 5:19, your responses to every post on this site have gotten so old. They are nonsensical. Your inability to take criticism is ridiculous. You complain about people being negative when this is all you do. The right spot would be a place that gets foot traffic and general car traffic. Not a senior community. Can you explain how a senior community was a good idea? Why don’t you build it and make it work?
Delete@6:04 - so what you are saying is “don’t criticize our criticism! We criticized first, so ours counts!”
Delete@1:51, no, it’s “get some new material” because you use the same lines each time when they don’t even make sense. Does it hurt your feelings to be called out? Since you’re lashing out to multiple people. Lmao.
DeleteWell, add Mosaic Bistro & Pub in Chamblee to the winners' circle! Another local spot that got tired of all this incredible winning and decided to just close. Truly the greatest economy in human history, folks. Can't afford groceries, rent's gone vertical, gas costs a kidney, but sure, everything's fantastic! Funny how the only business that never seems to struggle is whatever's got a certain golden name stamped on it those pockets stay nice and lined while the rest of us watch our favorite neighborhood haunts board up one by one. Anyone telling you otherwise is FAKE NEWS! But don't you worry, we're all gonna be SO rich any day now. So wonderful. So much winning I can barely stand it!
ReplyDelete@ 3:55pm - oh boo hoo hoo….we can’t complain about everything on here without someone complaining about the complaining. Ohh booo hooo….we should just be able to hate everything and not allow anyone else to disagree with that. Boo hoo hoo
DeleteJeez, your life must really, really suck. Mine and my friends are loving life - things are fantastic. Seek mental help.
