[ALERT] Original Kaleidoscope Chef Opening New Restaurant in Chamblee

Chef Joey Riley, who last April closed his popular Kaleidoscope Bistro & Pub in Brookhaven after 14 years in business, is coming back with a new restaurant called Mosaic Bistro & Pub.

Riley, a veteran of classic Atlanta restaurant the Buckhead Diner, departed the Buckhead Life restaurant in 2010 to open Kaleidoscope, affectionately known as "K-Pub,"  which became a Brookhaven mainstay.

Mosaic, which Riley referred to in a January 8 Facebook post announcing the new name as "Kaleidoscope 2.0," is opening along Peachtree Boulevard in Chamblee. (Riley registered "Mosaic Bistro & Pub LLC" on January 9.)  According to the post, Mosaic will offer "a vibrant new dining experience while keeping the same great energy you’ve always loved."

In his post, Riley did not disclose an exact location but indicated that he's planning to be open this summer.   After a bit of digging, we were able to confirm that Mosaic will be located at 5251 Peachtree Boulevard in the Attiva by Cortland 55+ "active adult" apartment community.  Mosaic will occupy a roughly 3,100 square foot space on the north end of the mid-rise building.

Despite having identified the location in January, a source close to the project tells ToNeTo Atlanta that Riley's lease on the 2,200 square foot space was only fully signed and executed earlier this week.

Riley hopes to accommodate 80 guests inside plus an additional 60 on the to-be-built patio.  The restaurant's menu, like a "mosaic," a mixture of many things, will feature dishes and drinks inspired by cuisines from around the world, including Asian, Italian, and American.

At Attiva, Mosaic will join existing eatery Oaxaca, a Mexican restaurant, and upcoming additions Brews & Hops Taproom and Dumpling Master, on which we reported in January.

The new restaurant is not related to MoSaiC Restaurant, which owner Jody Dean closed in June 2013 after nine years in business.  That restaurant, on Maple Drive in Buckhead, was later replaced by a new mid-rise apartment community.

Riley's former business partner Doug Gross is also opening a new restaurant, but in Brookhaven, a stone's throw from the old K-Pub which today operates as Porterhouse Grill & Pub.  Gross's new restaurant, Confab Kitchen & Bar, is slated to open later this month at the new Parkside on Dresden apartment development at 1350 Dresden Drive.

Mosaic plans to serve dinner seven days a week, with weekend brunch and eventually lunch service, too.

Are you excited about chef Joey Riley's return?  What was your favorite dish at Kaleidoscope?  What is your favorite Chamblee area restaurant?

Well, good luck and you will need it. A business located on ground floor facing a major street, with parking access only from a side street, not visible from the business, will struggle to attract customers.

Good luck. Gonna need it. Restaurant business is tough enough and customers are fickle. But when the parking is not visible or accessible from the main street, it adds a level of complication.

Does Oaxaca struggle? Doesn't appear so when I'm there/nearby and has the same "issue".
