Mothers Best Fried Chicken, which opened its debut brick and mortar location in Downtown Decatur at 406 Church Street, is closing. The restaurant opened December 6, 2024, and will reportedly close in the coming days, according to multiple sources close to the restaurant.
Kumar, a graduate of Georgia State University and resident of nearby Scottdale, has been preparing for this debut for about two years with his "Dank's Deli" pop up that is wrapping up a six-month residency at Poco Loco.

With its own space, Dan's will feature a wider variety of menu items, breakfast, lunch, and dinner hours, and cheaper prices, according to Kumar.
When Mothers Best opened, it replaced Calle Latina which had occupied the space since 2013. Before that it was home to BadaBing Catering.
Kumar tells ToNeTo Atlanta he plans to hit the ground running with hopes of being open by mid-August.
The 2,000 square foot restaurant is the previously unnamed "historic downtown Decatur restaurant" that was updated Wednesday from "under contract" to "sold" in this listing from local broker Steve Josovitz of The Shumacher Group, who handled the sale on behalf of Mothers Best.
The closure of Mothers Best follows the May closure of fellow fried chicken spot How Crispy Express in Summerhill.
