[ALERT] Korean Fried Chicken Franchise Fails in a Flash in Smyrna

A franchise of Bonchon Korean Fried Chicken has closed after less than a year in business.  The restaurant was located in an outparcel of the Sprouts Farmers Market-anchored Olde Ivy Village at the corner of East-West Connector and South Cobb Drive in Smyrna.

The franchise, opened by local entrepreneur and restaurant industry veteran Patrick Fischer, officially debuted November 12, 2025, and reportedly closed abruptly (and quietly) at the end of July.

No official reason was given for the closure, but the restaurant seemingly had issues with inconsistent service from day one, compiling 131 reviews on Google and an overall rating of just 3.6 stars.

The 2,400 square foot space is not yet marked as available, suggesting that its closure was a surprise not only to prospective patrons and employees, but to the center's landlord (Inland Property Management), too.

When the center first opened, the Bonchon space was home to a franchise of the ill-fated pizza chain Uncle Maddio's Pizza.  After Uncle Maddio's closed in 2020, a local restaurant called Twisted Kitchen opened in its place in 2021 and closed in 2025.

Despite the Smyrna closure, two other Bonchons remain open in the greater metro Atlanta area: on Old Milton Parkway in Alpharetta which opened in 2024, and on Pavilion Parkway in Fayetteville which opened in 2016.

Are you surprised to see Bonchon in Smyrna close?  What would you most like to see open in place of Bonchon in Smyrna? What type of restaurant do you think Smyrna needs most?

Please share your thoughts below.

  1. The skyrocketing prices of food due to Joe biden’s failed policies were probably just too much for this restaurant to overcome. Very soon the great effects of the big beautiful bill will cause the economy to soar. We just need to be patient

    2. It was opened less than a year. So it’s Trumps fault. Are you going to blame high gas prices on Biden. LOL

    3. LMAO. Love it.

    4. And Donald Trump's idiocy is making sure that prices for everything remain above the stratosphere. But once he's gone, and the GOP is extinct, we'll get to blame DemocRATs for everything.

    5. Now what were those Biden policies again? And how exactly did they make food prices go up? Cause it seems tariffs are the problem. And when are the effects from that bill gonna take effect? Lemme guess…when a Dem goes in the WH and prices start headed down immediately.

    11. Yes, a restaurant that opened almost a year after he left office and closed almost a year and a half later must be his fault.

  4. Biden definitely did a number on inflation, but Trumps not doing much better and the big beautiful bill won’t change anything.

    1. Twump is making it worse. Biden started it, but Dumald is pouring gasoline on a dumpster fire. But I shudder to think how things would be if that POS Harris had won.

  5. Thank you for this detailed update—it's always a shame to see a local business close, especially one that generated so much initial buzz. The rapid turnover at that location is definitely telling, and it’s hard to overcome inconsistent service no matter how good the food is. Hopefully the landlord and next entrepreneur can break the cycle and bring something truly stable (and delicious) to that spot!

    1. I know this is said a lot on here, but it's a challenge getting into that lot. Cities and counties need to do a better job at planning.

  6. The effects of the Big Beautiful Bill are in: 40 trillion in debt, the bond market panicking, Trump's hand-picked Fed chief caving within three months of being confirmed. Blaming Biden for this is itself a sign of cognitive decline, of the sort that affects Trump.

    1. I didn't know that the BBB caused $40 Trillion in debt? I thought it was a collective effort of corrupt crooks on both sides of the aisle spanning decades, while each side pointed at the other to blame and they collectively all got rich.
If you support either of these parties, you've been fleeced and are equally at fault.

  7. Bonchon Korean Fried Chicken is a great restaurant. Expensive but delicious. I visited this location in early June and they had bad management. The food was not as good as other locations. More salty and stingy on the sauce. No one knew it existed and that location sucked.

  8. Korean chicken is expensive everywhere. It’s hard to compete when Popeye’s has 3 pieces for $5.
