[UPDATE] Nordstrom Rack Sets Opening Date For New Store at Atlantic Station

Nordstrom Rack is actively hiring and is slated to open their new store at Atlantic Station on Thursday, October 29.  The new store measures 26,740 square feet and occupies the former DSW (1380 Atlantic Drive, Suite 1432) in the mixed-use project.  

DSW closed at Atlantic Station on January 24 after 20 years in business at the landmark mixed-use development, creating the opportunity for Nordstrom Rack to open just its second ITP location.  ToNeTo Atlanta was the first to report on the Nordstrom Rack opening. 

The new Nordstrom Rack in Atlantic Station marks the eighth in Georgia for the off-price retailer.  The company opened new stores in Kennesaw and Snellville in March 2024 and also operates stores in Buckhead, Buford, Dunwoody, and Alpharetta.  Metro Atlanta's newest Nordstrom Rack opened this past September at Johns Creek Town Center in Suwanee.   

The company announced August 6 that they will enter the Athens market with a 22,000 square foot store slated to open at Athens Marketplace next summer.  

There are also full-line Nordstrom department stores at Phipps Plaza in Buckhead and Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody.

Nordstrom, Inc. announced on May 20, 2025 that Erik, Pete, and Jamie Nordstrom, and other members of the Nordstrom family and El Puerto de Liverpool, a Mexican retailer, had completed their previously announced all-cash acquisition of Nordstrom, returning the company to private ownership.    

According to the company's website, they currently operate about 90 full-line Nordstrom stores and more than 300 Nordstrom Rack stores. The company also operates one "Last Chance" store in Phoenix, Arizona which (to which we can personally attest) is essentially a Nordstrom Rack rack with assorted merchandise likely at its deepest discount.  

While many retailers are retreating from physical retail, Nordstrom Rack has aggressive expansion plans to hit 400 stores by 2028. "When it comes to Nordstrom Rack, they want us to be their hometown store. They want us to be within 15 minutes from where they work or live," said Gemma Lionello, President of Nordstrom Rack, in 2025.   

(Rival discount retailer TJX Cos. by comparison, operates more than 2,600 Marshalls and T.J. Maxx stores across the U.S and sees long-term potential for 3,000.)

The Atlantic Station store is one of ten Rack stores the company plans to open on October 29, with a total of twenty-three opening between today and November 5.

Effective August 1, Trademark Property Company, a mixed-use investor, developer, and operator, assumed management, leasing, and operations of the 138-acre mixed-use retail district, and on September 2 announced a series of new hires including several Jamestown and Simon Property Group veterans.
