ToNeTo Atlanta has learned that Nordstrom is bringing another of its off-price Nordstrom Rack stores to metro Atlanta.
The new Nordstrom Rack in Atlantic Station would mark the eighth in Georgia for the off-price retailer. The company opened new stores in Kennesaw and Snellville in March 2024 and also operates stores in Buckhead, Buford, Dunwoody, and Alpharetta.
Metro Atlanta's newest Nordstrom Rack opened this past September at Johns Creek Town Center in Suwanee. The new Nordstrom Rack opened September 18 in the 31,000 square foot space left vacant in January by the closure of Market by Macy's.
There are also full-line Nordstrom department stores at Phipps Plaza in Buckhead and Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody. (The company previously operated a third full-line store at Mall of Georgia in Buford, but closed it in October 2014, after which it became a new location of Von Maur.)
Nordstrom, Inc. announced May 20 that Erik, Pete, and Jamie Nordstrom and other members of the Nordstrom family and El Puerto de Liverpool, a Mexican retailer, had completed their previously announced all-cash acquisition of Nordstrom and returned the company to private ownership.
According to the company's website, they currently operate about 90 full-line Nordstrom stores and about 300 off-price Nordstrom Rack stores.
While many retailers are retreating from physical retail, Nordstrom Rack has aggressive expansion plans to hit 400 stores by 2028. "When it comes to Nordstrom Rack, they want us to be their hometown store. They want us to be within 15 minutes from where they work or live," said Gemma Lionello, President of Nordstrom Rack, earlier this year.
Sources suggest that Nordstrom Rack at Atlantic Station should open by the end of 2026 and that the company has at least one other site under consideration in the greater metro Atlanta area.
Are you pleased by the addition of Nordstrom Rack to Atlantic Station? Where else would you like to see Nordstrom Rack open? What is your favorite off-price retailer?

Well this is interesting and a sad sign of the times for a great department store.
Really sad for the Nordstrom brand. Atlantic Station is like Stonecrest Mall with an IKEA cobbled onto it
