Footwear, apparel, and accessories retailer Ariat is planning to open its first full-line retail store in metro Atlanta. The California-based company is slated to join the roster of tenants at The Works on the so-called "Upper Westside" in 2027, according to those who attended a recent real estate conference in Atlanta.
Beth Cross and Pam Parker launched Ariat in San Leandro, California in 1993. The brand is named after Secretariat, the legendary 1973 Triple Crown-winning racehorse. Secretariat's finishing time of 1:59.40 at the Kentucky Derby remains the fastest time ever recorded at the event.
The company currently operates twenty full-line Ariat and Ariat Work stores across the country as well as thirteen outlet stores including one at Tanger Outlets Savannah in Pooler. Ariat products are also currently sold in a variety of retailers including Dillard's, Academy Sports + Outdoors, Boot Barn, Laredo Western Wear, and Tractor Supply Co., among others.
One of the main "anchors" at the works is a flagship location of Ballard Designs, an Atlanta-based furniture and accessories retailer. The addition of Ariat is reportedly the first of what Selig hopes will be several "soft goods" retailers to open in the mixed-use development in the years to come.
Ariat is the latest western wear retailer to enter the metro Atlanta market following the opening of Tecovas at The Shops Around Lenox in Buckhead in September 2021 and at Avalon in Alpharetta in August 2024. Fellow boot brand Lucchese opened at Buckhead Village District in Buckhead in May 2025.
