Bishop Georgia-based Mirko Pasta may soon add 3 new locations to the metro area in the coming months. (In November I broke news Mirko would enter the metro area with a location in Buckhead) A location that will open adjacent to Gigi's Cupcakes at Merchant's Walk in East Cobb is confirmed. Additionally, at Toco Hill, Mirko is apparently looking at taking a portion of the former Edo Japanese Restaurant. Earlier this week I broke news that La Parrilla Mexican Restaurant would take a portion of the space. Both Toco Hill and Merchant's Walk are owned by Edens & Avant, and are in the midst of massive renovations and remodeling, each adding a number of new tenants.
The third possible location is a little more up in the air. Once listed as one of TOWN Brookhaven's original "local restaurants" opening within the mega development, it was later removed from promotional materials. Now word is they are again looking at opening in the project, although it may now a franchised unit, whereas before it was to be a corporate store.
At Toco Hill, where the Goldberg's Bagel opening is sure to challenge veteran Bagel Palace, Mirko, if as good as Figo, could very well be the final nail in the coffin for Artuzzi's. Artuzzi's is located less than two miles away at the intersection of LaVista and Briarcliff Roads and serves similar fare. This intown Artuzzi's is one of only two still in existence and has gone through at least two management changes. I would not be surprised to see them close if / when the Mirko comes to fruition.
While the Artuzzi's concept in general was a colossal failure, Mirko has its own problems to deal with. A lawsuit was filed a few weeks ago against Mirko individually, as well as the company, by his former legal representation. My attempts to locate online the record of this lawsuit were unsuccessful. Perhaps the case was settled out of court.
