In the Blink of an Eye, Mirko Pasta Says Ciao to Toco Hills Promenade

Mirko Pasta has closed at Toco Hills.

Atlanta-based Mirko Pasta has closed its franchised location at Toco Hills Promenade.  The roughly 2500 square foot casual Italian eatery opened  in October 2011 and was one of a number of new restaurants to open as part of the  the center's renovations.

According to a source, the restaurant was performing well in comparison to other Atlanta area locations and was significantly outperforming other out of state locations.  Based on current sales figures, the restaurant was profitable and its sales from yesterday were among the best in the chain.    The restaurant closed for business after dinner service Monday night and its closure was a surprise not only to neighbors in the area, but also to associates at other Mirko Pasta locations.

The Toco Hills location had been active on their twitter @MirkoPastaToco at opening, then took an extended break until January of 2012.  The tweets and engagement remained fairly consistent until this past May, when since May 8th they had said nothing.

As of lunchtime Tuesday, the exterior signage from the front of the building had been removed, while outside patio seating as well as indoor ff&e remained in place.

Chef Mirko Di Giacomantonio opened the first Mirko Pasta opened in Watkinsville, Georgia  in 2007.  Chef Mirko is one of the original founders of similar concept Figo Pasta.

Today there are about a dozen Mirko Pasta locations in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee.  Figo Pasta remains exclusive to the metro Atlanta with seven locations from Decatur to Alpharetta.  Osteria del Figo, their flagship westside location, will relocate to a new location on Marietta Street early next year.

Its going to be a chef driven restaurant between the same ownership and the Tin Lizzy's group from what I hear.

Any guesses as to why they closed suddenly? Sounds like the place was profitable. It was always crowded when I went.

There is already a new sign at the Mirko location... It says: Cibo Rustico Osteria. Please post more info when you can.

P.S. You have a great site. Anything new to report on Loehmann's Plaza?
