Zaxby's Coming to Roost in Sandy Springs

Zaxby's is coming to roost in Sandy Springs.

Zaxby's is looking to build another new restaurant on Roswell Road, this time in Sandy Springs.  The quick serve chicken chain is working to secure two parcels, 6545 and 6555 Roswell Road, about a block south of Abernathy.  6545 is home to a car wash, similar in size to the abandoned car wash that was demolished in north Buckhead and rebuilt as a Zaxby's restaurant in 2011.  6555 Roswell is a former Arby's restaurant that has been vacant for years.

According to local sources, the restaurant is still in the planning and permitting phase, and as it's located in the new(ish) city of Sandy Springs, things might take a while.  I spoke to two Sandy Springs residents, one of whom works for the city, and both seem thrilled at the prospect of having a Zaxby's in their neighborhood.

If all goes well, the restaurant should open in late 2014.  Plans call for Zaxby's to make use of only a portion of the two properties, with plans to divest themselves of the excess land.

In other Zaxby's news, I saw sketches a few months ago of a would-be Zaxby's at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, but according to a Zaxby's rep there are no current plans for a restaurant at the world's busiest airport.  For the record, Hartsfield already has outposts of Chick-fil-A, Popeyes and Bojangles'.
