Lucky's Burger & Brew Hoping to Break the Curse in Brookhaven

A new burger joint is coming to Brookhaven

Lucky's Burger & Brew will open its second location, this one in Town Brookhaven.  Lucky's will open in the former Slack's Hoagie Shack, and plans to open "in the first quarter of the year."

Slack's at TOWN Brookhaven aimed to be higher end than its other, northeast locations, and after opening in 2010, failed to consistently attract business and closed in early 2012.  Slack's closure was the first at the lifestyle center, but others including Stir Crazy and The Cup have since closed, each having been replaced by Here to Serve concepts: Smash and Shucks, respectively.

Ernie Geyer, Lucky's owner, of both the restaurant and the golden retriever for which the restaurant is named, opened the original Lucky's in 2010 on Alpharetta Street in Roswell.

If the Brookhaven location is anything like the Roswell spot, expect a retro look with portraits of Lucky.  Lucky's is a casual, approachable burger joint, seemingly perfect for the growing number of young families in the area.  Like Roswell, Lucky's will have a patio for outdoor dining, though I'm unsure if Brookhaven will allow for dogs on the patio, as are allowed in Roswell.

With all the food options in TOWN Brookhaven, burgers were amazingly enough not readily available other than at There or Smash.  North Palm Beach-based BurgerFi was slated to open in the corner space opposite Smash but never started buildout, and eventually bailed on the project.

Do you think Lucky's will do well in Brookhaven?  Who do you think is the weakest, least appealing restaurant in TOWN Brookhaven?  What is the best restaurant in TOWN Brookhaven?

Please share your thoughts below.

Not sure how many restaurants Town can handle, but I'm surprised there is no burger joint there. Canyons is closing in the Kroger shopping center, right?

The problem is with the location, more than anything. That parcel is on the back side (if I remember correctly), and is hard to notice unless you are back there. I just hope they don't tint the windows too much - new restaurants need to have a view so folks who have never heard of it can catch a glimpse.

I'm surprised there's no Taco Mac anywhere near Town. Seems like an established sports bar with a large following and big atmosphere would do well. Maybe they will pop up in the Chamblee Plaza development...whenever that happens. Any update on that one??

Now that Costco is over there I think this place has a shot of becoming popular whereas with Slacks there was absolutely nothing that drew big crowds back there. I'm still surprised that Cafe at Pharr concept and Treza are still holding on..

Maybe so, Brittney. They should put a fridge a freezer out front for Costco shoppers to store their refrigerated and frozen purchases while they eat. That'd be unique (and perhaps bizarre, but definitely unique)

I am never sure if the author loathes Town Brookhaven or loves it but either way it isn't going anywhere. We need a burger place. I think the location isn't an issue now that more things are on that side, including other restaurants (There) and Costco.

with more food opening here, something will go. There is not enough daytime business to sustain 10 eating establishments in TOWN especially at the rents they are paying.

It's not a burger joint per se, but the Olde Blind Dog there makes some pretty tasty ones. But to Speedy's point, yes, Canyon at the Kroger is kaput. Which is too bad -- that was a good mid-price burger.

Brittney, Costco opened well before Slacks closed and still didn't help. But other than no name recognition, Slacks was very poorly run as pretty much anyone who went there regularly can attest.
Same problem for Lucky's. I always thought a Buff Wild Wings, taco Mac or some other sports bar would end up there. Wish them luck; they will need it!
