Get Ready! Cook-Out is Opening in Atlanta THIS MONTH, With More to Come!

Cook-Out Update!

North Carolina-based Cook-Out is finally making headway into metro Atlanta.  The popular burger and shake joint has a cult-like following, and its entry into the Atlanta area has been met with great enthusiasm and fanfare, months ahead of their opening.

A company representative reached for comment indicates that the current plan is to have their Moreland Avenue location open later this month.  The Cook-Out on Moreland is at the cusp of East Atlanta Village, and is opening in place of a former Mrs. Winner's.  A significantly delayed location on Northside Drive near Georgia Tech will reportedly open in mid August, hopefully in time for the start of the fall semester.

Another location in Rome is slated to open in May.  The Rome location, like the Moreland location, will replace a former Mrs. Winner's restaurant.

My friends over at The Carrollton Menu are hearing increased chatter about a potential site in Carrollton as well. Apparently, a site has been selected, but a deal is not yet complete.  Should this site not work out, Cook-Out is reportedly still "committed to Carrollton."

Sources in Savannah tell me that at least two Cook-Out locations are in the works in the area.  One will be built near the Publix-anchored Pooler Marketplace shopping center on Pooler Parkway.  Another Cook-Out will reportedly replace a former Wendy's restaurant at 11700 Abercorn Street.

As of now, Cook-Out has five locations open in Georgia with reported plans to open 20-25 locations (chain-wide) annually over the next five years.

Although I've got no solid leads to confirm anything, I suspect that we may see additional Cook-Out locations open in and around Marietta and Kennesaw.

Cook-Out's mission statement is "To serve customers the highest quality food in the least amount of time in a professional well run way, overall to be the best in the QSR business."  I have witnessed this first hand in my trips to Cook-Out in North Carolina, and look forward to them bringing their high standards to metro Atlanta.

Where would you like most for the next Cook-Out to open?

That sign is horrendous -- we saw one in Athens this weekend. Bleh

It might be horrendous, but you noticed, and remembered, it.

Cook-Out would crush at the former Wendy's spot next to the Wal-Mart on Johnson Ferry/Waterfront in East Cobb. There is a McD's and Zaxby's at the intersection but nothing with sloppy BBQ and hot dogs. Plus Cook-Out seems to like being near Wal-Mart Supercenters.

I would destroy the heck out of Cook-Out regularly if it were in Alpharetta or Cumming... cheap food and it's tasty...

With five guys, smashburger, burgerfi, boardwalk burger, yeah burger, farm burger, cheeseburger bobby's, rhea's, grindhouse, and hell, even fuddruckers, why would this place think they could thrive? Why would I seek one out with this ridiculous number of options already here?

Because it's inexpensive from 5 Guys, Smashburger, Burgerfi and all of the other high end burger joints. $20-30 meal for 2 at Yeah Burger will be $10-15 at Cookout with just as good quality.

The only thing uglier than Cook-Out's logo is its website. No wait, the actual faux-stone exterior of the building. UGH.

How about you try it out first.... For one, none of those other places carry the amount of shakes.

It will require more than good food, good prices and ugly signs. If they want to thrive, they will have to recruit some of the good staff from Chic-fil-a.

How does a Wendy's close in east Cobb?

Some of you need to educate yourself before you comment. If I had to categorize Cookout, it'd be fast food, not fast casual. So comparing it to those places is not accurate. I'll go to Farm Burger when I want "upscale" burger. I'll go to Cookout when I want "fast food" burger. I'd say its competition is McDonald's, Wendy's, & BK - though better than those 3!

@Anon RE: five guys, smashburger, burgerfi, boardwalk burger, yeah burger, farm burger, cheeseburger bobby's, rhea's, grindhouse, and hell, even fuddruckers,

I appreciate your comments but to think that a consumer in East Atlanta would be deciding between the restaurants you mention and Cook-Out is implausible. Aside from the fact that the restaurants you mention are a mixture of casual and fast casual, both higher end than Cook-Out, they are all located in other parts of Atlanta. (The closest Boardwalk Burger is at Hartsfield, while Fuddruckers only operates three units locally, all OTP.) Cook-Out will take business from places like Checkers and McDonald's, both of whom have locations nearby.

Thanks for your comments and your readership.

Cookout is the best place in the world.

Their food is delicious and their prices are incredible.

You want a burger for your entree? Sure. Make it a double cheeseburger. So then you get 2 sides....what do you want? Fries? Onion rings?

What if I told you the sides you could get consisted of: a chicken quesadilla, a steak quesadilla, a corn dog, a hot dog, chicken tenders, a chicken wrap, a BACON wrap....and any other number of different things...AND it comes with a drink...for less than $7.00.

Example meal: Double cheeseburger, chicken tenders, a quesadilla, and a sweet tea? Hell yes.

Oh, did I mention their shakes? No. Well...they have about 40 different ones. All hand spun, and absolutely wonderful.

Have you ever had a watermelon milkshake when it's really hot outside? No? Well, go to cookout and you can.

They have standard shakes and seasonals, that'll knock your socks off.

I cannot wait for this place to open.

I don't think Five Guys and Farm Burger are exactly out of touch for those of us who live in East Atlanta. Grindhouse, BTW, has one of the best burgers in Atlanta. Try the Cowboy -- double -- if you haven't. Rings > fries. Welcome to the neighborhood, Cook-Out. We're glad to have you in East ATL.

Hope they open one in Dallas/Marietta soon

Great option which will directly compete with McD, Wendy's, BK, Checkers, Sonic, and Krystal on Moreland.

We gonna be so fat...

Do restaurants really have to compete with everything in a 20 mile radius? (some of which don't even exist anymore)

DRIVE THRU FAST FOOD BBQ

Moreland is a terrible eyesore of fast food grossness and lousy design. Regardless of whether Cookout's food is any good, its building is ugly and tacky. Although a WaHo might class up the area...

When I want milkshake options, Palookaville is the best!!!!!

I am from NC. Cookout is epic in NC. It will make it with sales from NC folks alone. We love it that much

Is Cook Out gluten-free? I just gotta have gluten-free when it comes to cloggin' my damn arteries.

Atlantan99 said...

@Anon RE: Gluten Free,

I was unable to find it confirmed on their website but I'm inclined to say its highly doubtful that Cook-out features anything gluten free.

Sorry.

Thanks for your readership and comments.

Not to mention late night after the club it is still open!!

Cookout is like a drive-thru only version of The Varsity. More grilled flare and AWESOME milkshakes. Can't wait to get a Carolina style hotdog!

Im from North Carolina and live in East Atlanta now and i can say from first hand experience that CookOut will destroy everything around. I survived on it in High School and College. Best food to happen to ATL

Cook-Out doesn't have an official website. What you probably saw was a fan website.

Atlantan99 said...

@Anon RE: Website,

There are two fan run websites but more recently an actual corporate website launched. Cookout.com

Thanks for your comments and readership.

Can anyone confirm if it is actually open now?? I can't wait to get my hands on some NC barbeque!

They are definitely open. Had lunch there, trays are only $5 and they are open until 4am most nights, 5am Fri and Sat. They had a decent line inside, and a long line in the drive thru

I live near the new one on Moreland Ave. in East Atlanta, and they have been insanely busy since they opened. The shakes are great, burgers decent, and prices reasonable. But how they hell are they getting constantly long lines without any advertising? Right down the road (within a couple of hundred yards) there is a newly refurbished Wendy's and McDonald's. Across the street is a Checkers. Krystal is next door. Why are so many people flocking to Cook Out?

Anyone who has anything negative to say about The Cook Out is speaking foolishly. This company is smart and
they should keep doing what they're doing. I will travel 6 hours to NC just to eat there. And I am not the only one. They did awesomely bringing it to Atlanta you just wait and see.
