Bits & Bites

Wellspring Treasures is closing its thrift store at Toco Hills shopping center Saturday April 21.  The organization provides coaching and community integration for survivors of sexual exploitation.  The group's other locations in Duluth and Peachtree City will remain open.  Wellspring is the second thrift store to close in the center following last year's closure of The Nearly New Shop, a service of the Junior League of Atlanta.  The two thrift stores are among about a dozen longtime Toco Hills tenants that have closed in the past couple of years, following the center's acquisition by Edens and their revamping of the historic complex.

Lush Nail Bar is opening in Toco Hills in a portion of the former Power Lady Fitness near Bagel Palace.  The nail salon will open in a roughly 2,500 square foot space and should open later this summer.

Kung Fu Tea is opening a new location in downtown Atlanta near Georgia State University.  The new shop will open at 4 Park Place South, near Edgewood Avenue, alongside Roly Poly sandwich shop and ebrik coffee room.  Kung Fu offers assorted teas, coffee and milk beverages.
New York-based Kung Fu Tea has existing Atlanta area franchises on Buford Highway in Doraville and on Old Norcross Road in Duluth.

Quick-serve pizza restaurant Firenza Pizza will open their first Atlanta area location next Wednesday April 11 at Sugarloaf Marketplace in Duluth.  The Sprouts Farmers Market-anchored center is located at the corner of Peachtree (Industrial) Boulevard and Sugarloaf Parkway.  Firenza will open in a 2,300 square foot freestanding building beside ZoĆ«s Kitchen.  As part of the restaurant's grand opening activities, the pizzeria will award free pizza for a year to the first 10 people in line on April 13th & 14th.

The first Atlanta location of  Garra Spa will open its doors this spring in a 1,600 square foot space of Town Center at Cobb in Kennesaw. The spa will offer several experiences, including a variety of fish spa treatments, a special spa treatment for children, ionic cleanse treatments, combinations and private parties. The spa is expected to open in May on the upper level Macy’s wing next to women's retailer Windsor.  Garra Spa presently has five locations, three in Florida, and one each in Kentucky and Ohio.

Florida-based shoe retailer Traffic closed all of its locations this past weekend, according to a ToNeTo Atlanta reader.  The company had Atlanta area stores at Southlake Mall in Morrow, Arbor Place Mall in Douglasville, The Mall at Stonecrest in Lithonia, Cumberland Mall in Smyrna, and Town Center at Cobb in Kennesaw.  The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy this past June, for the second time in just six months.  Trafficshoe.com, the brand's e commerce site, is currently "unavailable."

ToNeTo Atlanta has uncovered plans by Atlanta-based Krystal to "scrape and rebuild" both its Tifton and Atlanta area locations in the coming months.  The Tifton Krystal is located at 819 West Second Street and the Atlanta Krystal is located at 415 Moreland Avenue.  Both restaurants will receive versions of the company's latest "clocktower" design.  As we mentioned last month, plans are also in the works to complete a similar project at the existing Krystal on Piedmont Road in Buckhead.

Earlier this week, Krystal announced that it had hired Paul M. Macaluso, most recently President of McAlister's Deli - a unit of Atlanta based FOCUS Brands - as its new CEO.  Krystal's prior CEO, Omar Janjua, left the burger business to become the CEO of Taco Bueno, based in Irving, Texas.

The Dapper Doughnut plans to make its Atlanta area debut next week in the Fashion Cafe at Lenox Square. ToNeTo Atlanta first reported on the doughnut shop's planned opening this past January.  The new mini-doughnut shop will occupy a newly installed kiosk at the rear of the Fashion Cafe near Farmer's Basket.

Moe’s Southwest Grill opened their newest Atlanta area location Thursday April 5 with assorted giveaways and specials. The new location, in Marietta Trade Center at 280 Cobb Parkway in Marietta, is owned by franchisee Shahid Panjwani.

Solcioty Fitness opened its first Atlanta area franchise earlier this week at Tuxedo Festival in Buckhead.  The company's original location is in Columbus, Georgia.

I had some Firenza Pizza that they had donated to the SE Railway Museum on Saturday and can honestly say it was pretty good. My favorite was the Corleone which had a pesto base, chicken, feta and banana peppers, but all of what we sampled was good.
