[CLOSURE ALERT] Boston Market Shutters Longstanding Roswell Restaurant

Quick-serve restaurant Boston Market has closed its longstanding location at 1555 Holcomb Bridge Road in Roswell.  The restaurant, located in a freestanding building near the intersection of Holcomb Bridge and Old Alabama Roads, closed Sunday night, according to local sources and an employee at another Atlanta area location of the restaurant chain.

In an email to customers, the company thanked them for their years of patronage and offered a "BOGO" deal if they were willing to travel to one of the remaining restaurants...by Sunday, February 2.

"I am sorry to let you know that the Boston Market at 1555 Holcomb Bridge Rd. has closed.  It has been our privilege to be part of the Roswell community for the past 26 years, and we are grateful to the many customers like yourself who have supported us over this time."
The Boston Market restaurant is 3,504 square feet on about .84 acres, and was built in 1993, according to Fulton County property records.  Boston Market, originally Boston Chicken, was started in Newton, Massachusetts in 1984, and was owned by McDonald's from 2000 until 2007.  Today, the chain is based in Golden, Colorado and is owned by Sun Capital Partners, a private equity firm.

According to the restaurant's website, there are currently 376 Boston Market restaurants throughout 28 states, Puerto Rico and a single restaurant near Ramstein Air Base in Germany.  Florida and New York are the chain's largest markets, with 53 and 45 restaurants, respectively, according to the company's website.

Following the closure, Boston Market has only a handful of Atlanta area locations, including those on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs, Briarcliff and North Druid Hills Road not far from Toco Hills, and Powers Ferry Road, in the same center as CVS, not far from Truist Park.  The chain also has locations on Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth, in Stone Mountain on Stone Mountain Highway, and at Fort Benning, Fort Gordon and Fort Stewart.

Boston Market closed their East Cobb restaurant on Sandy Plains Road last January.  The restaurant reopened in early July as a Chipotle Mexican Grill featuring one of the chain's first " Chipotlanes" where customers can order ahead via the Chipotle app and get their food faster - and from their cars.

Also in July, Boston Market closed another 45 restaurants nationwide with restaurant executives blaming the closures on "an evolving restaurant industry that faces increasing competition, rising costs and shifting consumer preferences."  The July closures included local restaurants on Redan Road in Stone Mountain and on Highway 29 in Lilburn.

Are you surprised that Boston Market closed its Roswell restaurant?  What would you like to see open in the now former Roswell Boston Market?  What is your favorite quick-serve restaurant?
