The Athlete's Foot, or taf as its known today, is once again opening in Lenox Square Mall in the recently shuttered F.Y.E space across from California Pizza Kitchen. A few years back it had a location on the upper level of the mall where the Oakley store is now. It's likely F.Y.E. opted to forgo a "Going Out of Business" sale and instead ship their merchandise on hand to the larger and more successful location at North Point Mall in Alpharetta. While the closure may have been sudden (but not surprising), The Athlete's Foot apparently hopes that being surrounded by its competition will help. It is unknown whether The Athlete's Foot, a franchise operation bid more than F.Y.E. was willing to pay for the space, but they certainly must be well funded to land it. With Lady Foot Locker to the left, Kids Foot Locker and a in renovation Champs Sports to its right, not to mention the Foot Locker above it -- this area of the mall is starting to look more like SIMON's Northlake Mall. Champs and Foot Locker being owned by the same company will be an uphill battle for The Athlete's Foot to gain market share. The Champs Sports location is undergoing a substantial renovation over the next six weeks and is already one of the larger Champs in the region. I was there today and noticed the FYE gone. Lenox has no music store now. If anyone wanted to buy a CD or a DVD, they'd have to go to Borders or Target, the two closest retailers that sell music and media.

How do you figure that? Because when I'm at Lenox (an increasingly rare event), I sure do see lots of athletic footwear.
If Lenox can boast some of the highest sales per square foot in the country, it should be able to hold out for a higher-end retailer that brings something new to the line-up.

NEXCEN brands are garbage. They make Raving look good. At least they stuck TAF in the "ghetto" section of Lenox. Should be TAF's demo coming off Marta

Ok, Reactionary I guess you're content with another TAF. I personally would have liked Lenox to maintain more of an upscale lineup if possible. Just my wishes. Good luck to TAF - obviously the hightop shoe market is ripe in the ATL.
I do remember Timberland. What do they have to do with the discussion? I do remember they had a store in Perimeter at one time.
Reactionary and Jonathan, There was a Rockport on the upper level of Lenox a few years back but I don't recall there being a Timberland (though there was one on the main level of the Macy's wing at Perimeter, but it closed)...?
There was also a Timberland Store at Phipps for a while that closed a few years back.
Timberland started as a company marketing rugged outdoor wear, including hiking boots. They ended up as a company marketing hiking boots for, ahem, urban use. Basically, they rebranded in response to the changed demographics of their customer base. They are still a going concern, and Lenox appears to be taking the same lesson to heart.
