Now Hot Dogs Are Barking up the Tree

As I mentioned earlier this month, Clay Harper closed his one year old Three on the Tree frozen yogurt experiment and today it re-opens as "Ringside Franks & Shakes." Ringside will feature a number of locally sourced hot dogs, chicken sausage and bratwurst. I'm told the meats will all come from local farms and that accompanying fries will be hand cut daily. While the space was formerly a Wolf Camera and before that a Taco Bell, it is quite small. I'm eager to see what the guys have done to the space, aside from add the very needed outdoor patio seating.

Earlier this summer, Clay Harper and company opened Leroy's Fried Chicken on Howell Mill Road in West Midtown. Originally scheduled to be another Three on the Tree outpost, it appears Clay has all but given up on that fad. For now, the last remaining Three on the Tree is within the existing Fellini's Pizza on LaVista road near Oak Grove.

The Buckhead area is surely a great place to test this concept before expanding it, and hot dogs may just be the NEXT big thing. Top Chef Richard Blais opened his heavily hyped HD1, gourmet hot dog joint in Poncey-Highland last week and early reviews have been good overall. While the cheapest dog at HD1 is $4.50, I'm told most dogs at Ringside will come in at $3.75, and will be so big "you'll only eat one." Costco remains a solid bargain at $1.50 for a quarter pound beef dog and a 20 oz. beverage, but I'm a sucker for a good chicken sausage. I'm told the eatery will also feature a variety of malts so the frozen goodness of Three on the Tree is not totally gone.

Some information, breaking news and industry scoop is only disseminated via my Twitter and Facebook accounts so "follow" and "like" them so is not to miss a beat!

This is good news, because if I have to read about another frozen yogurt-cupcake place, I am going on a serious chainsaw-rampage thru the city.

Wake me up when Pallookaville opens a free standing location. Their corndogs puts everyone else's hot dogs to shame.
