Former 5 Napkin Burger to Reopen as "10"

The former 5 Napkin Burger in midtown is becoming "10."

New York-based 5 Napkin Burger  closed last month after less than a year in business, and sources tell me the asking price for the property was cost prohibitive to many prospective buyers.

A temporary banner announcing that 10 would be opening soon was hung Tuesday evening.  Two men on site who identified themselves as owners were tight lipped about divulging much information, but they shared that they plan to be  "bistro by day and gay bar by night."

Apparently the plan may be to have a local version of the popular Hamburger Mary's restaurant.  Hamburger Mary's bills itself as "an open-air bar and grill for open-minded people,"  and is often located in "gay-centric" neighborhoods.  The first Hamburger Mary's opened in San Francisco in 1972, and today there are twelve locations nationwide.  There was talk that the chain was interested in the 5 Napkin space, but had been told that a lease was already in place with another user.  It would be rather ironic if 10 was that user and they end up imitating Hamburger Mary's.

The duo plan to have a "preview opening" during next month's Pride weekend.  The annual Pride Festival, now in its 42nd year, will take place at nearby Piedmont Park October 13th & 14th.

The restaurant is located at the corner of 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue in the heart of midtown Atlanta.  The name "10" is likely attributable to its 10th Street location.

The poor imaging on the banner is already leading many to confuse the business as "10pen."  Sources tell me that the owner is an existing club owner in Atlanta and has brought in an additional investor to purchase the business.  When originally listed, the asking price was in the neighborhood of $750K, but sources say it's likely the sale price was closer to $600K.
