Former Spaghetti Warehouse Reborn as Cosmopolitan Restaurant

After receiving calls, texts, emails and posts, I finally have an answer for the many who have inquired:

The former Spaghetti Warehouse on Delk Road in Marietta will reopen soon as Cosmopolitan Restaurant.  Spaghetti Warehouse, a regional chain with about 15 locations mainly on the east coast,  closed in Marietta over a year ago, and up until recently, had remained vacant.  The new American/Italian eatery plans to open in mid-late March and will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.  The 13,000 square foot restaurant will apparently also have a full bakery, and will offer a variety of steak and seafood dishes for lunch and dinner.

I've only been by this restaurant space a few times, but according to local real estate sources, the area has deteriorated quite a bit over the last few years.  To open what seems like such a gourmet eatery, in such a large space, with such a generic name, seems rather risky.  Perhaps the owner went to school with the owner of Modern Restaurant in Buckhead and was taught, if you build renovate it, they will come.  In both cases, the name is weak and the spaces are too big.

I think the restaurant will have a tough time of it.  What do you think?  Will you be dining at Cosmopolitan Restaurant?  Please share your thoughts below.

I'm wondering what's going to happen to the Old Spaghetti Factory space in Midtown?

I lived there around ten years ago. The area has changed. Good luck to them.

Would you please be more specific about how the area has changed?

Thanks.

@TheJohnP,

Excellent question. It's such a large space. Perhaps something happens closer to the completion of Ponce City Market.

Thanks as always for the comments and readership.

I LOVE your website!

I am always looking for new posts and I save the archive so I still have some new ones to read! :)

Did you ever comment on the Fratelli on Bennett Street that closed? I know the story behind it and Vita, just checking if I missed your post...

I live right down the street from it. I am not sure how it was maybe 5 years ago, but right now it is kind of run down. That's why I am excited something new is opening. Things have generally been looking up around there. They built an entirely new car wash, opened up an LA Fitness, built a bank, opened a new pizza place....but that's all further down Delk Rd. Right where the old Spag Ware is, is pretty rundown. Just gas stations, motels and fast food.

Good to know, I've been wondering myself! I think the area probably has deteriorated but it appears to be coming back slowly. That dirty Kroger got renovated, they've put new retail around Whirlyball, and torn down some of those nasty motels by the Racetrac. Now if all the apartment people could remember to throw their trash away instead of forgetting it's on the roof of their car when they pull out of the complex Delk might experience a real renaissance.

I never understood what made it go downhill in the first place. Apparently old motels and old apartment complexes are all it takes to make an area go ghetto.

I live off of Delk and Powers Ferry and wish the owners of this restaurant well. I will certainly give them a try and will be a regular if it is good and a decent value. They will probably have to pull business from the interstate if they are to make it. I agree the name is too generic. There is a little improvement in the area but until the economic status of the apartment residents can be raised, it is only going to get so much better. It can be somewhat scary at night with the roaming packs of teenagers with pants around their thighs. And, no kidding about the trash problem. I've been meaning to contact my commissioner to see if something can be done about it. Perhaps garbage receptacles need to be at each apartment building and not at the entrance/exit.

I also live just east of the Delk/75 area and appreciate this investment. The changes to the building exterior and front look like a good start, but it’s a challenging spot so I hope the owners also address the parking deck and the Rottenwood Creek flood plain adjacent to it. Passing by the old Spag Warehouse, the unkempt, muddy, and overgrown lower deck area had me wondering what other corners were being cut inside the place and we never ate there for this reason. If it can't be demolished or updated, simply cleaning up the weeds and trash between the deck and the creek and some thoughtful landscaping with trees and shrubbery around the deck and between the street and the lower driveway would improve perceptions a lot. Regarding Delk, east of I-75 is not unsafe, but it is in bad need of a street-level improvement plan. With the concentration of motels and apartments this area probably can’t aspire to be the next Buckhead. But, it has potential and could easily be more appealing and healthier with minimal attention.

The space is huge. Unless its really good and clean, I give it less than a year. Botikem down the street, didn't lady long, and the space was much more size appropriate. Good luck!

Some of the buisnesses have closed. And parts look ran down. I know Cracker Barrel is there but Outback is gone and some of the other restaurants in the area are gone. Maybe they can sustain a restaurant. I enjoyed that area when I lived there. Near 75, Cumberland mall and Kennesaw.

I agree. For some reason it is that section of Delk.

Who is in charge of the kitchen ? Will it be GOOD Italian food,at a value?

Most of the exits off 75 are run down in Atlanta the roads are littered with garbage pot holes all over. But somethiing new may help

People who work nearby are excited to try it...

They have put a ton of money into renovations and I am sure they are going to give it their best effort possible.

Although my favorite restaurants are the whole in the wall type places so you really can't judge a restaurants food quality by the appearance or location of the facility.

The improvements were looking great until they put up that tacky, cheap looking white sign. In fact, I found this site because my family was debating whether it was going to be a restaurant or a strip club. With the cheap sign and the horrible name, it was a toss up.

I run a bar and restaurant near this, and I looked at moving my shop to this location before The Cosmopolitan took it. They've done a lot of work on the building and it's adjacent parking deck. It's part of the regentrification of the whole area, but I think that building is too big to do anything well in that area.

Well from what I here that whole area will be revitalize really soon hotels even renorvating so stay tune.

Thanks for post. We live near Terrell Mill Park and have watched the area deteriorate for past 10 years; starting to see signs of improvement. We did wonder if it was a nightclub (strip club) or a restaurant so glad to hear it's a restaurant. We will give it a try in support of the area but that area on Delk feels iffy at night. Good to hear the hotels nearby will be updating. It's a very convenient location so would love to see it improve.
Starbucks coming in by LA Fitness will be a good addition.

Yay!!!,,Starbucks....

Are they changing the name? The sign has come down... Don't tell me they closed before they even opened!

@Anon,

According to a restaurant representative, they are changing the signs in favor of a "nicer sign" and should be open "within a month."

Thanks for reading the site and for your comments.

They need to pull all the weeds out of their front entrance, it looks like a dump I wouldn't go to. Imagine how filthy the kitchen will be if they can't even keep their landscaping looking good?

Getting landscaping done is definitely on our list, and we already cleared area around parking deck from debris. Now as we're coming closer to opening date and finalizing work inside the house, we will give more attention to area around the restaurant.

You can get sneak preview how place looks inside on our facebook page: http://fb.com/cosmomarietta

As a kId growing up in the early 70's I remember that being a nice area with upscale restaurants. When the Holiday Inn became Motel 6 is when it started to decline. The Drury Inn and Ruby Tuesday is helping to bring it back but they need to clean up the trash and run off the hookers if it's going to succeed.

The area is changing (getting better). There are few places around under construction, and couple that already opened in last few months.
Cosmopolitan will definitely help, and it is the nicest looking place in the area.

They soft opened yesterday. Great food and drinks, it does look promising.

The new restaurant looks so beautiful from the pics...but...I am so nostalgic. I miss the old signs, trolley car and "bed table." I am sure it is a wonderful place but I am too melancholy! I guess I was thinking it would have some type of semblance of the Spaghetti Warehouse but it looks so different. But perhaps that is what everyone is wanting and I am old school. Congrats to the new restaurant though! I am glad that it is no longer sitting empty!

had dinner on a Thursday, there were some diners but relatively quiet. it is a huge place and they spent a bit of money. good was great, service great. heading back there tonight. immediate area with apartments is a bit yucky but hopefully people in W East Cobb will take the five or ten minutes to go there. Igor (yes, real name) is the GM and we enjoyed talking to him. he's a connoisseur of good tequila...ask him to recommend one
