An authentic vintage Multimixer at Palookaville Fine Foods, one of many cool vintage items

Pallookaville is now open in Avondale Estates.  The corndog food truck turned restaurant held a Halloween night party and closed over the weekend before opening today for lunch.  The kitschy restaurant features an authentic vintage Multi Mixer, as well as a genuine 30s era soda fountain.  Look out for private dining, event space and other fun stuff happening on the restaurant's second floor in the coming months.

Moe's & Joe's has been sold.  Moe and Joe Krinsky opened their tavern in Virginia-Highland in 1947, and the local watering hole has remained a popular hangout for generations.  No word yet on any changes in the pipeline but a name change is highly unlikely.  The restaurant's current owner Rick Adams is reportedly being retained for "licensing purposes," or more specifically, so that new ownership can maintain grandfather clauses and prevent themselves from having to update the restaurant to current codes and zoning policies.

800 North Highland Avenue and adjacent suites in Virginia-Highland will soon welcome a "theater" and additional retail.  The spaces in question previously housed a Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop, Starbucks Coffee, Key Lime Pie Salon and a couple of other businesses.  Could this be the new home of Dad's Garage Theatre Company?  I doubt it but hey, a guy can dream, right?

Captain D's on Cobb Parkway near South Marietta Parkway in Marietta has closed.  It had been in business for 35 to 40 years.

Folks restaurant at Sandy Plains & Canton Roads in Marietta is closing. It's been there 30 plus years.

Bonus Bit
I was in Phoenix over the weekend and stopped by the first True Food Kitchen to get the latest on the restaurant's plans for Atlanta.  According to a source at the restaurant, Atlanta is now third in line to open, behind Dallas and Houston Texas.  Dallas is slated to open before the end of the year, while Houston won't open until next year.  The Atlanta restaurant is "5 to 6 months away" but "could open sooner" says the source Given what an amazing meal I had (again) at TFK, I'm hoping for sooner, but judging from the lack of progress at the space on the front of Lenox Square, I think March may be the soonest we can hope for.

Re: Virginia Highland space -- I am thrilled to hear anything is going in there. If it were Dad's Garage, which I agree it's ridiculously unlikely, I would cry tears of joy.

What's with the two Cobb restaurant closures? Both seem random and I would think would be unlikely due to lack of business.

New restaurant on 12th Street in Midtown alert?

The place that was Fins/Kouture now has signs up outside for 'Stir it up' restaurant.

Presuming it will feature Caribbean cuisine?

Moes and joes will suck now that management is being replaced. Will never be the same.

Just an update on STG Tratorria, I workout at Flywheel and noticed Saturday morning, that they are in fact doing some work in the building. I called them last week to see if they had reopened as the sign said they would, and the message says earlier November. It may not be "death by renovation" after all!

I agree with the previous comment...these new owners of Moe's and Joe's are already making huge mistakes.

@Anon - Care to comment on what the mistakes are? Scared for my bar...

Since Moes & Joes new owners are getting rid of the Manager, I would guess that the staff will leave also. What the new owners don't realize is the vast majority of the patrons go there because of the friendships they have with the bartenders. The atmosphere at Moes and Joes is what draws people there and the bartenders had a lot to do with that atmosphere. It was the best trivia in town as it was done by the manager without him getting paid. It was just a great place to be. I don't think it will be that way with new management.
