Bits & Bites

A few more bits of the week...

Mirko Pasta closed its (franchised) Roswell Corners location last week.  The casual pasta restaurant had been open two years and comes on the heels of the closure of Mirko Pasta in Toco Hills.  The Toco Hills Mirko location had also been open about two years and closed in late October. Cibo Rustico Osteria, a similar, but reportedly more expensive and less appetizing concept, opened in place of Mirko last week.

Roswell Corners sports an exciting roster of casual eateries such as ZoŃ‘s Kitchen, Panera Bread and Chick-fil-A as well as anchors Super Target and T.J. Maxx and has reportedly seen significant interest in the former Mirko.

Los Angeles-based American Apparel is giving midtown a second try...in Atlantic Station.  The popular clothing retailer closed their previous midtown location on 5th Street at Tech Square in late 2008 while maintaining their locations on Euclid Avenue in Little 5 Points and at the Shops Around Lenox in Buckhead.

The new American Apparel at Atlantic Station will open in place of what was built as American Eagle Outfitters and had most recently been home to Fab'rik, a local women's boutique.  The store is expected to open early next year.  American Apparel is no stranger to Atlantic Station having hosted a giant flea market-style rummage sale at the center in early 2010.

Stir It Up has reopened in Midtown.  The Caribbean eatery closed its Little 5 Points location in early August and said at that time they were  "moving to a Bigger, Better, Sexier spot in Midtown!"  For one of the first times in recent memory, a closure that was followed a pledge to "move" actually came to fruition.  Stir It Up occupies a space on 12th Street most recently home to Kouture and before than Fins.  Stir It Up held a soft opening event last week and is now open normal hours.

Raku has finally opened on Marietta Street near Georgia Tech.  The eatery called "a Japanese restaurant for Korean tastes" by John Kessler of the AJC has an existing location open in Duluth and had been working on this new location for the better part of a year.  I originally reported on Raku's planned opening this past February.  Raku serves both tonkatsu and ramen and opens in place of what had been Burger Joe's.

Osteria Mattone opened last night on Canton Street in historic downtown Roswell close to sister restaurant Table & Main.  The restaurant is an Italian trattoria from Ryan Pernice and chef Ted Lahey.

Do you have any information on what is going in on the land that's being cleared across from The Forum on Peachtree Parkway in Norcross?

@Anon,

That project is a Fuqua Development property now known as Peachtree Corners Market.

As of now I know it to include both a Sprouts Farmers Market as well as a free standing PNC Bank.
