Bits & Bites

A few bits & bites to start the week...

Peter's has closed in Dunwoody. The restaurant reportedly closed because of an increase in rent. Peter's opened in Dunwoody Village in early 2008, and closed a few days ago. The restaurant served traditional Italian fare and took the place of High Cotton which in turn had opened in what was originally a Pizza Hut.   Peter's was owned by the father and son team of Peter and Alex Abraham.  This past February, Alex opened Peter's Italian Bistro in Roswell at Old Roswell Road and Holcomb Bridge Road.

El Bandito will soon open in place of the former Stir it Up at 1083 Euclid Avenue in Little 5 Points.  The Caribbean eatery closed its Little 5 Points location in early August, and reopened earlier this month on 12th Street in Midtown.  Little is known about El Bandito other than that it will offer casual Mexican fare and should be open in a couple of months.

Tin Lizzy's Cantina, which last week opened their newest location at Mall of Georgia in Buford, will add another location early next year.  Chastain Road in Kennesaw near Kennesaw State will become the home of the seventh Atlanta area Tin Lizzy's Cantina early next year.

Tacos & Tequilas Mexican Grill will replace Deckard's American Tavern  in Midtown Place on Ponce de Leon Avenue in midtown.  The casual Mexican eatery has existing locations in Chastain Square in North Buckhead, and Cumming Town Center in Cumming.  Deckard's was a previous DeathWatch member, and its location, on the upper level of a non-contiguous portion of the center, was one of the worst in town.  Aside from it being a bad location, I was shocked to see Coro Realty Advisors, the current owner of the property, place a casual Mexican eatery directly above current tenant Willy's Mexicana Grill.  Willy's opened early last year in place of similar burrito eatery, Qdoba.

*In more exciting news, I tried the new churro King of Pops made exclusively for Willy's Mexicana Grill, and it was awesome!

Vinings area restaurant Canoe will branch out with the opening of Cellar Door. The new business takes the place of Chopsticks, an Asian eatery within Canoe's shopping center.  Led by wine director Matt Bradford, Cellar Door will stock  more than 750 selections of wine from around the world, ranging in price from $9 to over $1000.  Cellar Door will also stock craft beers and will offer a monthly wine club as well as periodic tastings.  According to a Canoe representative, Cellar Door is scheduled to open Friday December 6th.

Retail wise, Lenox Square has started a strange and poorly timed "bridge expansion" within the mall.  Three interior "bridges" or the connectors of one side of the mall to the other will expand by eight feet.  A permit was filed with the city of Atlanta back in August, which would have been a great time to get this work done.  Instead, initial work began last week with inner portions of the mall exposed to the lower level, and areas around the affected area blocked off on the upper level.  With Black Friday and the start of the holiday season just a few days away, this seems like an odd time to start such a project.  For all those wondering what the big deal about eight feet is, my guess is that the added space will allow for the mall to add at least one and maybe even a couple of carts or kiosks to each bridge, and in doing so, rake in thousands more in annual revenue.  This is only my guess.  Who knows, maybe mall management is preparing for the future fattening of America.

In other Lenox Square news, the new "ecologically friendly and reusable tree" can be found not on the roof of Macy's but instead in the Macy's parking lot, next to the parking deck.  The fake tree, clearly less expensive and difficult to install than a real tree, looks as generic as any and sits awkwardly in the parking lot.  The new 56 foot tree was made by Alpharetta-based Christmas Lights Etc. and is expected to last 10 years.  As usual, the Lenox tree lighting will occur at 6pm Thanksgiving night.

I'm assuming the movement of the tree has to do with last year's accident!

I dont understand the Lenox Mall bridge expansions. Where exactly are they going to be located and how are they going to help?

@Jenna,

I'm sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I had pictures for this post but ws unable to share them. The bridges are located from side to side in the center of the mall starting with the connection above Vineyard Vines. My guess is that the widening will allow for Simon to install more kiosks to hawk more useless stuff.

Thanks for the comment and for your readership!
