The "Don" Apparently Made an Offer Brian Lewis Couldn't Refuse

STG Trattoria to be reopened as Don Antonio by Starita.

New York-based Don Antonio by Starita plans to open in Buckhead, taking the space formerly home to STG Trattoria.    STG was opened earlier last year by Brian Lewis of Bocado, offering traditional Neapolitan-style pizza and other Italian fare.  The restaurant abruptly closed in mid-October with then chef Sean Telo saying "the ownership has decided to sell."

Early intel suggested that local pizza icon Giovanni Di Palma was the one to whom Lewis had sold, but that turned out to be more wishful thinking than reality.  Instead, Don Antonio by Starita, a restaurant with one location in New York's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood, will open in place of STG.

I culled my resources and was able to uncover that Don Antonio did a sampling at Serenbe earlier this month and has apparently been offering private dinners for select would-be customers in Atlanta.  Although a permit for any kind of alteration or construction has yet to be filed with the City of Atlanta, sources say the restaurant does intend to open in mid-January.

The original Don Antonio by Starita opened last February, and by all accounts has a been a popular place for pizza. The restaurant has 199 reviews on Yelp with an overall rating of four stars. The restaurant is helmed by master pizzaiolo Antonio Starita of Naples’ famed Starita a Materdei, and his protege, Roberto Caporuscio of Kesté Pizza & Vino in New York's West Village.

Unfortunately Don Antonio's has closed. We went there last Friday night to dine and pulled up to a shut down restaurant with the sign removed. So sad, it offered excellent pizza and an excellent atmosphere with a very nice patio. Anyone know why they closed?
