Bits & Bites

The Painted Pin, fresh off its unanimous approvals from all necessary review boards and committees, started construction on its 20 lane bowling alley this past weekend.   A company rep tells me the plan is to have The Painted Pin up and running next spring.   A Facebook page went live last week with the Latin phrase "Venite Ludere" which translates to "come play."  Along with bowling, the nearly 24,000 square foot space will also have Bocce, among other games.

More juice after the jump.

Shops Around Lenox will welcome Atlanta's first boutique from Austin, Texas-based jewelry designer Kendra Scott early next year.  Construction is to begin February 1, taking the place of Cosabella, which is due to leave when their lease expires at the end of January.  A second Kendra Scott is planned for Avalon in Alpharetta late next year.

Chipotle Mexican Grill is coming soon to Scenic Highway in Snellville.  Chipotle plans to demolish an abandoned Marble Slab Creamery (in the Home Depot shopping center) and build a new restaurant in its place. The Denver-based chain has been aggressively growing in Atlanta, most recently adding new locations in Decatur and South Buckhead, as well as mall locations in Perimeter Mall, and soon Lenox Square.   Although Snellville has many fast food and casual eateries, fast casual eateries such as Chipotle are starting to build more than others.

The Buckhead Theatre is in the preliminary stages of planning an onsite restaurant.  If all goes well, the restaurant could open as soon as next summer.  The restaurant would be located on the theatre's second level, and would be accessible from an entrance on Roswell Road.  The concept will reportedly be “Southern comfort food with a splash of new American barbecue,” seemingly putting it in competition with the upcoming Smokebelly barbecue restaurant opening early next year on East Andrews Drive.  Additionally, One Star Ranch is barely a block away, and has been serving up "Atlanta's best BBQ & ribs" for over 25 years.

Fly Burger Bar Boutique, Tom Catherall's new burger concept opening in Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, has pushed its planned opening from late December to early January. The burger & beer eatery will open in Concourse B, and joins other new Atlanta-based eateries such as LottaFrutta, Willy's Mexicana Grill and Fresh to Order.

G.A.B.B.A. aka Great American Burger Boutique & Ale, has closed for "remodeling."  Sources say the "renovations" signs may have been up as long ago as September, and that they are likely closed for good.  G.A.B.B.A., located at 4790 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Norcross, opened last May, replacing Berkeley's Sports Grill.  G.A.B.B.A. offered a variety of burgers and beers and also often featured live music and trivia.

Based on what I have seen from similar bowling alleys in other cities over the past decade, the Painted Pin should be a success. Hard to believe it has taken so long for Atlanta to get something like this.

Zoe's Kitchen is also coming to the same center as Chipotle in Snellville.
