Pozole Restaurant Gone After Eight Years, New Concept Coming

An observant reader comments that after eight years, Pozole quietly closed shortly after Christmas.

Pozole cantina and tequila bar was located in a freestanding building on Greenwood Avenue, right behind the Dark Horse Tavern in Virginia-Highland.  On my multiple trips in to the restaurant, business seemed steady yet its closure has gone nearly unnoticed.

According to a message posted on Pozole's website, a new concept, "Bar Meatball" will open in place of Pozole.  Additionally, details of what the restaurant will be were not provided but my guess is something along the lines of the popular The Meatball Shop, out of New York.  The Meatball Shops offers a variety of meatballs and sides accompanied by a few sandwiches and a great bar.

Bar Meatball is expected to open in February.

sad. We really liked Pozole. Ate there many times. Meatballs are disgusting and how often can you eat them? Especially when it is 95 degrees?

ahhh. 95 degrees sounds heavenly right now. brrrr

Pano can't wait to get his hands on those meatballs.

I can't see the draw of meatballs. The margaritas were the best in town. Curiosity will bring me by, but will it have longevity?

Coming from someone that still lives in NY and knows the restaurant business, this place is going to be a grand slam good luck
