BrandsMart USA is currently having what it's calling a "moving sale" at its Kennesaw location. The store, located just off I-75 near Chastain Road, will close in the coming weeks and will supposedly reopen in the coming "years." The giant Florida-based electronics store opened in Kennesaw in late 2005, and will continue to operate its three remaining Georgia locations in Doraville, Buford and Stockbridge. BrandsMart USA's property is being purchased with state funds for Kennesaw State University. The total cost of the property is expected to be $9.9 million with the state paying $4.95 million up front. Locally, rumors have swirled that perhaps the BrandsMart property could play into KSU's football program plans. KSU will join the Big South Conference as a football-only member in 2015.
Kroger has belatedly jumped on the frozen yogurt bandwagon. The newly renovated store at Cherokee Plaza in Brookhaven along with a handful of other area locations, now offer Honey Hill Farms frozen yogurt at 39 cents per ounce. A couple of years ago 39 cents was the average price for FroYo, but many shops have raised prices to darn close to 50 cents per ounce. The Kroger operation is smaller though, within the cafe/prepared foods area with a mere six flavors, self service.
Buster Brown will soon move from its current location on the mezzanine of Lenox Square to a new location at Phipps Plaza.
College Point, New York-based Restaurant Depot plans to open its new Marietta store on April 2nd. The new restaurant supply shop will occupy the former SYMS store on Roswell Road, just off I-75. The Marietta store will be the chain's third in Atlanta, with other stores already in operation in Norcross and in west midtown.
Boca Raton, Florida-based Office Depot has started its liquidation sale at its Providence Square location today. I previously announced talk that the store would close and now comes confirmation that the store is in fact closing, and will likely be consolidating its East Cobb operations into the existing OfficeMax at Merchants Walk. The merger between OfficeMax and Office Depot became official late last year, and the combined company is now known as Office Depot, Inc.
Hoffman Estates, Illinois-based kmart has officially closed its East Cobb location. I broke news of the closure last month and the store ended up closing ahead of their scheduled March 26th closure date.
Auburn, Alabama-based Chicken Salad Chick opened at Providence Square this past Tuesday.
Laurend Abraham, former GM of Tantra in south Buckhead, has purchased the restaurant and will be rebranding it as Vin Vie Bistro, set to debut in late April.
Taste, a boutique that "moved" from Decatur to Phipps Plaza in Buckhead, is now closing. According to a sales associate at the store, the relocation was only meant to be a holiday pop up but the owner opted to give it a try as a long term store. Apparently the sales did not justify the lease and the decision was made to close the shop. As of now, much of the store is 50% off, and there are no immediate plans to reopen it elsewhere.
Wendy's on Bear Creek Bolulevard in Hampton will be the next Atlanta area location to be rebuilt with the new modern store design and layout. Wendy's restaurants in Newnan and west midtown have already under -gone extensive remodels, and have reportedly experienced increases sales as a result. The Hampton location is about three miles from Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Hydration Station has spawned a competitor, Hydro-Clinic. The business has one location open at Buckhead Court on Roswell Road in north Buckhead. According to the Hydro-Clinic website, they have a second location coming soon to Las Vegas. Hydration Station has one location open in south Buckhead and a second coming soon to TOWN Brookhaven.
Abbadabba's will close their Gwinnett location on Satellite Boulevard. According to an announcement on the company's facebook page, the store has been open 18 years and will close as of April 27th. Additionally, like the nearby but now closed Talbots store, the Gwinnett Abbadabba's had been operating as both a store and clearance center. Abbadabba's will continue to operate its remaining four Atlanta area locations in Kennesaw, East Cobb, Little 5 Points and Buckhead. At a time when more and more retail spending is moving online, Abbadabba's has taken note and will soon launch its very own online store.

Somebody pull the lifeline plug on Kmart/Sears. They have suffered enough. Go to the light of retail heaven.
Brandsmart is right behind Big K and Sears. The Chamblee location is turning into a third world bazaar with less and less electronics and more cheap furniture and household items.
I asked an employee about the change and he denied there had been one. At least that is what my interpreter relayed to me.
Buster Brown has been in that location at Lenox for decades. Any word on the fate of those Terrace shops outside there at Lenox? That strip of stores is mostly empty except for a dry cleaner, police precinct and fitness club. And as for Brandsmart....all locations are a dump. The place is a mess and for all their advertised deals, they are most always out of stock, conveniently. That's the Brandsmart way!!
