A Few Years in the Making, Del Taco May Have Finally Secured New Location

Del Taco is planning another location in the Atlanta area.

Lake Forest, California-based Del Taco plans to open a new restaurant at East Cobb Crossing in East Cobb, near the intersection of Roswell and Johnson Ferry Roads.  The new restaurant will replace a rare, freestanding TCBY shop that closed in 2012.  Amazingly, the deal to bring Del Taco to this location has been in the works since 2011!  I first got wind of Del Taco's plans in the fall of 2011, and immediately contacted my resources to confirm this.  While I was able to confirm the framework of a deal existed, there were many moving parts, and the deal fell apart.

Since then, the center has changed management companies, lost junior anchor Michaels (relocated to Avenue East Cobb), and most recently, lost its anchor, kmart.  (The kmart space has reportedly drawn the interest of Dick's Sporting Goods while DSW has reportedly expressed interest in the former Michaels.)

Apparently the deal to bring Del Taco is finally back on and sources say the restaurant should open late 2014/early 2015.

Del Taco marked its third return to the Atlanta market with their hugely successful opening in Snellville in 2012.  Since then, the chain has added locations in Kennesaw, Smyrna, and Woodstock, and has another location coming soon to East-West Connector and South Cobb Drive at Olde Ivy Village.  Olde Ivy Village is a new center that will be anchored by a Sprouts Farmers Market (spring 2015) and will also feature a Krispy Kreme doughnut shop.

Del Taco and Dick's would seem to be perfect for that center, DSW maybe -- there are a ton of shoe stores in that corridor. But in truth, anything is better than empty fronts.

@Sky City aka Mike,

Yes, you are correct, that location is Olde Ivy village although it seems I did not mention the intersection in the post. (I have now updated that.)

Thanks for the comments and readership.

Speaking of Krispy Kreme, any idea what happened to the Roswell location close to the square? I drove by a few weeks ago and it was closed. I remember stopping there as a kid.

@Aon RE: Krispy Kreme,

Are you speaking of the Krispy Kreme in Roswell, near historic downtown Roswell? If so, that location "relocated" to 10781 Alpharetta Highway last year.

Thanks for your comments and readership.

unrelatedly, I was at the BuHi farmers market, and the former billiard hall/bar in the parking lot at the north end of the building is soon to be 'Calcutta Fine Indian Cuisine'.

It's a sort of hidden spot, I'm skeptical on its chances, but willing to give it a try. Sadly, this is where Doraville officer Hugo Arango was killed 10 years ago (out in the parking lot).

Kmart was bought out by the owners, it was not "lost".

Within the past two weeks (25 September 2015) Del Taco replaced the TCBY Yogurt sign with their sign.

Just and FYI, the Chuck E Cheese Pizza location across the street is now closed.
