Mykonos Taverna has closed.
Mykonos Taverna, the casual Greek eatery located in an outparcel of the Sam's Club at Clairmont Road and I-85, has closed. I live not far from Mykonos Taverna and only visited the restaurant a couple of times. The area around the restaurant is also home to a large Greek population and one of the largest Greek churches in the country, the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation.
The restaurant's food was basically diner quality with typical Greek specialties like gyros, moussaka and spanakopita. According to signage on the door, Mykonos Taverna was a 2013 OpenTable "Diners' Choice" award recipient.

It's unclear to me exactly when Mykonos Taverna closed. The restaurant had a presence on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, but the most recent restaurant related update on each platform was in December.
Mykonos Taverna opened in 2009 and replaced what had been a Roadhouse Grill. Roadhouse Grill opened along with Sam's Club when the parcel was redeveloped from the Kmart store that had been there for many years.
If memory serves, Kmart closed in 1999 with Sam's Club, Roadhouse Grill and the current McDonald's coming online in late 1999 or early 2000. The Roadhouse Grill closed around 2008 amidst corporate troubles that also led to the closure of locations in Roswell and Duluth among others. The restaurant space remained vacant until Mykonos Taverna opened in late 2009.
Mykonos Grill, a sibling restaurant located on Cobb Parkway near Cumberland Mall, opened before the Taverna in mid 2009 but closed last year. Before Mykonos Grill, the space was first a Johnny Rockets and as of earlier this year the space reopened as Firehouse Subs.
No word on what will replace the Mykonos Taverna but the restaurant's visibility from southbound I-85 could be appealing to casual dining establishments.

Thank you for saying you're closed, not playing the "renovations" ruse.
Wasn't this a Kenny Rogers' Roasters before it was Roadhouse Grill?
I am not surprised to hear this. I work close to there and have been twice. The owners were very nice and the service as really good but the food was just "ok" and they were a bit pricey compared to some other places. The portions were huge though!
My last visit there was about 3 weeks ago during lunch hour and it was only us and one other table. They were not busy at all.
I feel bad for the owners but I am just not surprised to see it close.
I would love to see a major chain restaurant open there.
