Dunwoody is getting a new restaurant.
Takorea, a Korean / Mexican fusion eatery will soon open a new location in Dunwoody. The new Takorea is opening in place of a shuttered Guthrie's (fried chicken), located in an outparcel of Georgetown shopping center on Chamblee-Dunwoody Road. The center is also home to Goldberg's Bagel, Starbucks, Farm Burger and Morelli's and is anchored by Kroger.
(The former Guthrie's was first, and for many years, a Dairy Queen.)
Guthrie's closed last August and there was early talk that Starbucks would take over the space to gain access to the drive-thru window. Apparently Starbucks opted to stay put in their existing space within the center.
I first heard talk of Takorea as long ago as December, but at the time was told the deal had "fallen apart." A tip from a reader clued me into the fact that the deal is very much alive.
An employee at the midtown location told me the owners hope to have the new location open in August.
The first Takorea opened in late 2011 on Juniper Street in midtown.

That space is small. Not sure how a "dine-in" restaurant works there. Not enough space for tables, unless they can dramatically change the space.
But still, better than a generic "Chinese/Wings/Burgers" take-out spot that I expected.
So excited about this news! A Starbuck's drive thru would have been dangerous for me there. I agree the space is very small - maybe they will expand into the drive thru lane?
Yay! I live right down the road.
I love this restaurant! Really excited to have one in Dunwoody now!
I drove past this afternoon. Windows are boarded up with a fence around the perimeter of the space. I think I saw a dumpster in the lot. I'm not that way often, so no idea how long it has been like that, but maybe it means they've started ripping up the interior.
Rumored to be building a large outdoor deck, which will help with the small interior space!! sounds great to me!!
@Anon RE: Deck,
Yes, you are correct, a deck is currently under construction.
Thanks for your readership and for your comments.
Hello! we are adding a patio, a walk in refrigeration unit, and ripping out the drop ceilings in exchange for exposed beams. This little space will hopefully look a little bigger :)

I live in the condo right behind Burger King and I've been watching the contruction progess for the pass month. It has been moving along quickly and nicely. At first I didn't know what restaurant it's going to be, but I was sure it's going to be something similar to Pure Tequeria. Since the contruction is very similar with the glass garage door that opens to the patio. I'm so excited to lean that it's going to be Tokorea. I love the food and drinks there. Yay!!!

Dunwoody, where I work and live, is a vegetarian wasteland, so my wife and I tend to travel a bit to find good eats around Atlanta. We discovered, and fell in love with, Takorea Midtown a few years ago. I'm so happy to have this option in the area. Great food, great (and covered!) patio. I highly recommend giving them a try!
