Bellwoods Social House plans to open "later this year" in a space most recently home to West & Mill, a small local bistro. West & Mill itself was a reconcept of Swit, a shortlived bakery & deli from the same owners. I was unaware that West & Mill had closed, but according to local sources it may have closed as long as a month ago, if not slightly longer.
Bellwoods is being opened by Leif Johnson of Alpharetta's Bite Bistro & Bar. Bite opened on Webb Bridge Road in Alpharetta in early 2011 in a shoebox of a space, largely specializing in lunch. The concept proved successful and Johnson expanded into a neighboring space and added dinner service six nights a week. The restaurant is closed all day Sunday. Bite serves "new American" cuisine in a casual, neighborhood friendly atmosphere.
Bite received a one star review from the AJC's Jon Watson in a March 2013 review. Watson was a fan of their dishes such as lobster roll and fig & prosciutto flatbread, but said that service can be hit or miss with an inconsistent menu.
The area around Bellwoods will soon welcome a host of new restaurants including bartaco from the group that brought Atlanta Barcelona Wine Bar, as well as Le Fat, a Vietnamese restaurant from Miso Izakaya chef Guy Wong. Figo Pasta is also relocating to a stand-alone building on Marietta Street while Delia's Chicken Sausage Stand will soon open its second location near the corner of Northside Drive and Marietta Street. Charlotte-based Amélie's French Bakery plans to open its new bakery at 840 Marietta Street in the coming weeks.
