Lenox Square Lands Two New First-to-Market Stores

Gourmet popcorn and premium audio company coming to Buckhead mall.

Chicago-based Garrett Popcorn plans to open a new location at Lenox Square.  The store will be the chain's first in Georgia and its only domestic location aside from Chicago, New York and Las Vegas. The chain has a number of international locations.  The building permit filed with the city of Atlanta does not specify a location, but I'm inclined to think they may occupy the current AT&T store in the Fashion Cafe.  At&t will soon move to their new "at&t Store of the Future," leaving the current small space available.

Lenox Square has had at least one kiosk-based popcorn purveyor, but has never had a storefront popcorn shop.

Framingham, Massachusettes-based Bose is also opening a new store at Lenox Square. According to their building permit, they will be in suite K113, which a Lenox Square representative identified as a kiosk location. Based on information available on the Bose corporate website, it's likely the Lenox Square location will be a "Bose Personal Audio Store."

This kind of "store" is the newest concept from the company, and offers an abbreviated selection of popular Bose products.  Although it does not say it explicitly, this concept seems well suited to fit into a kiosk model, not unlike their existing airport kiosk stores.

Bose has existing "Factory Stores" at Sugarloaf Mills in Lawrenceville, North Georgia Premium Outlets in Dawsonville, and at the new Outlet Shops at Atlanta in Woodstock.

Bose was started by MIT graduate Amar G. Bose in 1964, and for many years has owned the luxury headphone market.  More recently, Beats by Dre, now owned by Apple, has taken the lead in noise canceling headphones, once an area which Bose all but controlled.

Both Garrett and Bose are expected to open "in the coming months."

When several popcorn places were starting to open, I once commented that all I care about is Garretts. Until Garretts comes to Atlanta, I have no need for the "high end" popcorn. I'm so excited for Garretts! Though my waistline isn't :-)

You just made my day with Garrett's! I no longer have to wait until I'm in Chicago to get some (or have a friend bring back some when they go).

Of course, having one in town sort of takes the fun out of it. It is sort of a "when you go to Chicago" tradition for me. But then again, pretty soon, I can get my "mix fix" whenever I want!

Interesting with Bose as it seems like a new strategy for them moving away from the outlet malls that I have typically seen them in. As an owner of a few pairs of Bose headphones I like Bose but they need to work on design. Yikes that stuff is boring.

The Cozy Burger Town news made me sad, but the Garrett's Popcorn news makes me happy again.

Can't wait to get me a bag of Chicago Mix.

Garrett's opening may actually get me to go to Lenox.

@Anon @ 4:35PM - Try it before you make comments like "seriously, popcorn?"

I tried it and I still said, "seriously, popcorn?" So there ya go buddy with you and your special and overpriced popped corn.

My only question is, since Lenox stays near full occupancy at all times, where are they getting the space?

Are they kicking out existing businesses to accommodate these new tenants, or is Lenox building on additional square footage?

North Georgia Premium Outlets are in Dawsonville, GA, not Cumming.

@Anon RE: NGPO,

You are right and I have made the correction.

My apologies.

Thanks for your comments and readership!

re: Lenox Space, they quietly get rid of tenants (Geoffrey's), others don't renew leases, and there's medium/high turnover for the carts/kiosks, depending on economy. They did add a bunch of new SF w/ the recent remodel too at front of mall.

Garrett's is going where the little C-store was across from Aeropostle not in the food court.
