Bits & Bites

Krog Street Market officially opened this past Monday. The new market includes over twenty new eateries including Yalla and Fred's Meat & Bread from the team behind The General Muir and West Egg Cafe.  The market is located in Inman Park at 99 Krog Street, at the cusp of the Atlanta Beltline.
Shane's Rib Shack is opening a new location in Athens at Trail Creek Village.  The new BBQ eatery will occupy suites 200 and 205 in the Kroger Marketplace-anchored center at the intersection of Hull Road (SR 72) & Highway 29 N.

Sources say that WingStop will replace the recently shuttered Blimpie sub shop at Toco Hills.

Sweet Hut Bakery opened its second overall location this past Saturday on Peachtree Street in midtown. The new bakery is located in the street level retail of the Metropolis condo building and serves favorites made popular at the original Sweet Hut on Buford Highway in Doraville.  A third Sweet Hut location will open on Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth sometime in the first half of next year.

Local financial institution Fidelity Bank is again expanding, this time on the west side.  A new Fidelity bank branch will soon be built on Howell Mill Road adjacent to FLIP Burger Boutique.  The Atlanta-based bank added locations to both south Buckhead and midtown over the last couple of years, and more recently opened a new branch in Alpharetta.

Christian Louboutin opened in Buckhead Atlanta last week.  The luxury footwear designer is known for its red soled shoes and is a celebrity favorite.  Fellow luxury footwear designer Jimmy Choo will soon join them at the Buckhead project, relocating from Phipps Plaza.

The first Atlanta area Bonobos Guideshop plans to open December 12th in Buckhead Atlanta.  The small shop will be located near Theory and will offer men the opportunity to try on Bonobos clothing and determine their size, but will not sell merchandise.  Orders can be placed in store, but will be processed via the website and shipped to customers.  New York-based Bonobos began in 2007 and is today partially owned by Nordstrom.  Bonobos offers only menswear while their new concept AYR (all year round) offers only womenswear.  Both concepts target consumers similar to those of J. Crew / Madewell and Jack Spade / Kate Spade.

Twin sisters Novi Elder Deverell and Vita Elder Wilson opened their new wine and beer establishment, The Cask Room, last night.  Located on West College Avenue in Decatur, The Cask Room employs a unique "automatic wine dispenser" and also offers assorted craft beers.  While a full menu seems not yet available online, it will reportedly consist of sweet or savory crepes, made-to-order paninis, charcuterie plates, cheese plates, and soups.  The Cask Room is open Tuesday through Saturday.

Draft Filling Station, the craft beer growler store on Briarcliff Road near LaVista Road, has closed. Owner Hans V. Bendeck cited a new child as the reason for the closure as he could not give the store as much attention as he was able to before.  A number of people are reportedly interested in taking the space over and continuing operations, but no transaction has been finalized.

Cooks & Soldiers opened Monday at Elan Westside, the new apartment complex at the corner of 14th Street and Howell Mill Roads.  The restaurant is "Basque-inspired," and is the latest concept from Castellucci Hospitality Group. Castellucci's other restaurants include the Iberian Pig in Decatur, Sugo in Johns Creek and Double Zero Napoletana in Sandy Springs.

Atlanta's first Capriotti's Sandwich Shop plans to open December 15th. The Las Vegas-based sandwich franchise will be located on Satellite Boulevard in Duluth, not far from the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

I don't know how it is elsewhere in metro Atlanta, but out here in the burbs the stand-alone growler stores are dropping like flies. This fad is quickly dying.
