Bits & Bites

The former BrandsMart USA in Buford will soon become a new location of Floor & Decor.  Atlanta-based Floor & Decor opened its first store 15 years ago on the N.E. Expressway Access Road in DeKalb county. Today, the chain has over 50 locations throughout thirteen states, including recent openings in McDonough and Savannah.

A new consignment store called Queenie's Consignment is coming to Oak Grove Center on LaVista Road.  Queenie's is being opened by local resident Vickie Bracewell.  The new consignment store is opening in a portion of what was previously part of Mezza, a Lebanese restaurant.  Bracewell has previously worked at Finders Keepers in Decatur and volunteered with the Assistance League of Atlanta thrift store in Chamblee. Queenie's will sell "high-end women's clothing and home furnishings."

Atlanta-based Acadia Homes & Neighborhoods plans to bring a new townhome community to Toco Hills. "Townsend at Toco Hills" will replace the existing, older apartment complex known as "Toco Hills Apartments." According to the Acadia website, there will be a total of 26 townhomes "priced from the 400s."

Charlotte, North Carolina-based Bojangles' is planning to open a new location on Memorial Drive in Decatur.  The new fried chicken eatery is planned for the 3600 block of Memorial Drive, essentially in front of the Walmart Supercenter (former home of Avondale Mall, and before that, Columbia Mall).  If all goes well, the new Bojangles' could open before the end of the year.  Other new Bojangles' are planned for Chamblee, Doraville and Sandy Springs.

Gu's Dumplings has opened at Krog Street Market. The opening could not come soon enough for those who missed Gu's Bistro, the popular Szechuan eatery on Buford Highway in Doraville which closed suddenly about two weeks ago.

F&H Food Trading Group opened its newest Salt Factory Pub this past Monday in Woodstock. The new Salt Factory Pub is located on Main Street in the heart of Woodstock's historic business district.   The first Salt Factory Pub is located in historic downtown Roswell, a second opened in downtown Alpharetta in late 2013.  The Woodstock restaurant is open this week for dinner only, starting at 4PM, but plans to add lunch service soon.

Acworth-based Primrose Schools plans to open a new Sandy Springs campus at 5188 Roswell Road. The new campus opens in place of AJC International who relocated to Abernathy Road in late 2011.  Primrose Schools was started locally in 1982 and via franchising has about 300 locations nationwide today.

Charley's Philly Steaks opened its newest location yesterday in the Fashion Cafe at Lenox Square.

Regarding "Townsend at Toco Hills", there is strong community opposition to more townhouses in the area, but in this particular case it's hard to see how anyone would object to getting rid of an older apartment complex.
