A new location of Bone Island Grillhouse is coming to Athens. Bone Island features a casual American menu with assorted salads, seafood, steaks and "B.I.G. Bowls." The new Bone Island is planned for a free-standing, roughly 7,000 square foot outparcel of Epps Bridge Centre. The center is anchored by Georgia Theatre Company's University 16 Cinemas and is also home to retailers Best Buy, Dick's Sporting Goods and Marshalls. The Bone Island restaurant will be situated between Freddy's and a McDonald's (N.A.P. of the center.) The original Bone Island is located on Greensboro Road near Lake Oconee.

The Athlete's Foot is again growing its presence in metro Atlanta. A new The Athlete's Foot (taf) store recently opened in Smyrna at Cumberland Mall, joining the other existing store on Lee Street in Atlanta. The footwear retailer once had locations in many metro area malls, but has struggled to compete with the likes of Foot Locker and Champs Sports as well as Finish Line. The Athlete's Foot opened a store at Lenox Square around early 2010 that last a few years, but today operates as "City Gear." The taf store at Lenox was at least the chain's second attempt at the mall, and I'm fairly confident the new store at Cumberland is at least the second attempt there as well.

Deadwood Saloon has closed on 12th Street in midtown. The western themed bar opened in 2010 before which it was home to the first Twisted Taco (ten years). Popular lesbian bar My Sister's Room will relocate from East Atlanta Village with plans to reopen in July in the former Deadwood space. My Sister's room is currently owned and operated by Jami Siden and Jennifer Maguire aka Chase Daniels. The bar was originally in Midtown in the late 90s before relocating to Decatur and later East Atlanta Village in 2007.

Judy Johnson of Sandpiper womens boutique is launching a new concept, Mint by Sandpiper. Details are scarce at this point, but the store will open at 245 North Highland Avenue (across from Parish) in Inman Park and will sell both clearance and consignment items. The now defunct Blue Genes boutique operated a similar venture, Green Genes, where they would liquidate both old merchandise as well as take in merchandise from the public in exchange for either credit or discounts towards new merchandise. Given owner Judy Johnson also heads the bi-annual Original Boutique Warehouse Sale, perhaps other stores will provide their past season merchandise for liquation in what could become a perpetual sale space. Judy Johnson, a longtime shopper of Sandpiper, purchased the business from original owner Melissa Jagoe about two years ago. Sandpiper's current sole location is in Vinings Jubilee although they once had a second location in City Walk, off Roswell Road in Sandy Springs.

what do you know about the quiktrip on powder springs road in marietta closing? are there plans to rebuild and reopen in the same space?
The reference to the Sandpiper boutique made me think of an old restaurant named the Sandpiper. Does anyone remember the Sandpiper restaurant and where it was located? I remember eating there as a child, but no details.
I found this from another site....
Coco's was owned by the conglomerate W.R. Gace & Company and they also owned The Sandpiper Restaurant (circa late 60's to late 70's, perhaps into the early 80's) on Piedmont Road, just south of Pharr Road. On the property that's about where the Marriott Residence Inn is now located.

I'm sure you know this, but just like the new Braves stadium, Cumberland Mall is NOT in Smyrna. It's in Vinings. Or Cumberland. Or unincorporated Cobb. But it's not in Smyrna.
Anyone else find it amusing that a "popular lesbian bar" will be taking over Deadwood?
Bangkok Station has absolutely terrible visibility. I would be surprised if it lasts long. Lack of residential and office density in its immediate area, as well as poor visibility from the street could lead to an early doom. If the food is good people might find it but we've seen this story play out time and time again like the pizza place that closed on West Paces Ferry in the Flywheel center.
Have you heard any more on the Planet Blue? Like a more exact date for opening? I am so excited for there to finally be one in ATL!!
