Breastaurant Reduction for Tilted Kilt in Atlanta

Breastaurant chain continues to close locations

Tempe, Arizona-based Tilted Kilt, a Celtic themed "breastaurant," has now closed two metro Atlanta locations within the past month.

The Tilted Kilt restaurant on Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw closed late last month, followed by the closure of the Sandy Springs restaurant this past week.

The Kennesaw location will reportedly reopen in the coming months as a new tavern from the owners of midtown's Sivas restaurant.  The Sandy Springs location (in the former Max & Erma's) occupied a 6,800 square foot freestanding outparcel of the Perimeter Pointe shopping center and opened in 2010.  The space has great visibility at the corner of Mount Vernon Highway and Perimeter Center West, but I'm unaware of any imminent replacement plans.

Previous Tilted Kilt closures in metro Atlanta have included locations in Johns Creek at Medlock Crossing and on Holcomb Bridge Road in Alpharetta.

Following the closures, Tilted Kilt will operate just three Georgia locations in Suwanee, Buford and near Cumberland Mall.

Atlanta-based breastaurant industry leader Hooters operates eighteen locations in Georgia with a nineteenth coming soon near Mall of Georgia.   Upstart Twin Peaks, based in Dallas, Texas, operates three locations in the peach state.

What would you like to see open in place of Tilted Kilt in Sandy Springs?  Why do you think Tilted Kilt has fared so poorly in metro Atlanta?  Are you offended by the term breastaurant?

So here's the problem with having Hooters, Tilted Kilt & Twin Peaks - there aren't enough "qualified" women to work there. You need 2 things: 1) Women who WANT to work there & 2) Women who are QUALIFIED to work there. A woman may want to work there but they may not be qualified. Anyways, are there enough women who want to work at all these locations? I think that's the issue. Quality goes down when the workforce is spread too thin. And while many of their clientele don't go for the food, the food really was not great. Hooters food is better. As for what should replace it, I'm sure something will be there sooner rather than later. Though what Atlanta needs (not in Sandy Springs though) is a new location of the Dallas based "Tallywackers" Us gay men need something too :-)

I really hope they don't close the Cobb Parkway location. Contrary to the opinion on this blog Tilted Kilt has great food and atmosphere at that location. Much better than crappy Hooters or Twin Peaks that's for sure.

Interesting points, AJ. Maybe they could combine into one location serving both clientele - a tally side and a breast side>?

It is all down to management. If the servers, beer, and food are considered disposable by management just looking for a constant parade of tits, the concept crashes. The Kennesaw joint was oddly slow to embrace craft beer, for example. The Cumberland spot could go either way with Bravesworld going in basically across the street -- a well-run classy, but sassy spot which MLB could never duplicate on premises, or go for the broad middle with a "family" sports bar concept which hopes to live off of cheap overflow from the closer-in comp.
I hope for the former, but we'll see.

Despite the "great visibility" of the Sandy Springs location, the access and parking for that outparcel are both pretty poor and the parcel kind of sits in a hole.

I visit the Cumberland Tilted Kilt during March Madness because it isn't too crowded and the food is pretty decent (way better than Hooter's IMO). It's probably a bad sign though when a sports bar is not packed during March Madness, right?

Finally, in response to AJ, there's probably enough "qualified" female servers in Kennesaw to staff two dozen breastaurants, so I don't think that's the problem.....

AJ, Atlanta is already pretty close to Tallywackers with Joe's on Juniper. Just make the uniforms tighter and you are there.

I agree, the Sandy Springs location was horrible in terms of visibility and access. In fact that entire shopping complex along Mt. Vernon is hard to see and reach. Probably why the Micheals and the Chick-fil-a relocated to the bottom of hill near Ashford Dunwoody.

Chick fil a did not relocate, they augmented. Unless I am mistaken? Also I don't think lack of visibility will ever kill a chick fil a. Now their lot on mount Vernon is so bad a huge suburban backed into my new tiny BMW there 2 years ago while I was in drivevthru.

Business model sucks: kilts not actually tilted. :^(

My suggestion is build a new Chick Fil A in Sandy Springs right next to their existing location or perhaps a third Chipotle.

This is all so wonderful!!! Let's just cut the crap and have restaurants where everyone is naked and they smear the tits and dicks in your food and drinks and then wipe their butts with your napkin. Everyone can be happy then. They'd sell the best gourmet food in the world and have every sports channel in the world. Then everyone can get drunk and have a burger with tit smears and wings with foreskin scrapings. Sexy and fun! Yippee!

Throughout Atlanta and actually nationwide chipotle has the best reputation for having the worst parking situation ever, at every location. Next time you go to a chipotle, any location, you will have a frustrated parking situation. Following the theme of having too little and terrible in/out parking, I think the new development at brookleigh market in Brookhaven is a perfect location for chipotle! Right next to where the new Marlowes is going in on the opposite corner of that building. Personally, even given the new Starbucks in dunwoody the one on Johnson ferry and Ashford, and the one on Peachtree, I do think not putting a Starbucks or rather moving the Starbucks from Johnson ferry to brookleigh out parcel was a big miss. Further, the old buddies service station opposite the new whole foods in front of lowes in faux Chamblee (brrokhavenish) would be a perfect location for standalone Starbucks, even though the peach tree location is relatively close.

I've only been to Tilted Kilt twice, but but times the food there was MUCH better than Hooters. Never been to Twin Peaks

you know, the views were certainly exceptional - but I really enjoyed the shepherd's pie, and the homemade chips! I hated to see them leave for so many different reasons

The service at the Kennesaw location was less than mediocre. I sent several letters and email messages to the management of that location and NEVER heard back on ANY of my messages or letters.
