The new hotel will be flagged "Curio - A Collection By Hilton." Curio hotels was launched in 2014 and are a collection of independent boutique luxury properties. REM Associates, L.P. owns the property and signed the franchise license agreement with Hilton to operate the hotel. The hotel will be managed by Highgate Hotels. Plans call for a full renovation of the building and for a reopening to take place in late 2017 as a 265 guestroom hotel The hotel main level will feature the building’s Georgia white marble grand staircase and original Tiffany windows, with the planned addition of a full-service restaurant and a bar. The hotel will also have meeting and event space. Built in 1906, the Candler Building was Atlanta’s first steel skyscraper. The Gap store at Lenox Square will soon begin a $600K renovation of its existing approximately 11,000 square foot space. The store, seen by company executives as the flagship in the market, has been renovated a number of times over the years. This renovation is expected to take about two months during which, as with its sibling retailer Banana Republic this past fall, the store will remain open during the work.
Establishment, a popular bar previously located in Buckhead, will reopen at its new midtown home in Colony Square this weekend. Owner Brandon Lewis joked that his bar has now replaced two failed sports bar concepts, Loco's in Buckhead and now JR Crickets in midtown. The new Establishment is far larger than the Buckhead location and will offer a wider variety of food, with plans to offer both lunch and dinner. The restaurant itself is done and ready to open. I attended a private pre-opening event at Establishment this past weekend and after utilizing the valet near the former Shout, found it difficult, as many others did, to find Establishment. Whereas J.R. Cricket's was accessible from within Colony Square, Establishment's primary entrance is on the outside of the building. With this in mind, Lewis has decided to delay the opening until a nearby grand staircase, at the intersection of Juniper and 14th Streets, is completed. Colony Square reportedly intends to have the steel and concrete staircase completed within two weeks. When completed, the staircase will provide pedestrian access directly to Establishment with plans to offer valet service at street level in addition to the stairs.

I stopped in to the new Cook Out Burger last weekend and was slightly disappointed. After all the excitement and positive press they have received I guess I expected too much. The burger was decent and the service was fast and friendly. However, the fries just seemed like cheap frozen offerings and while the burger was decent it was kind of small. I will admit there may be different size burgers, but they were so busy I just ordered their special and maybe missed the different burger sizes. While I seldom eat burgers or fast-food I might give these folks at least one more shot.
I used to eat at Cookout when at college in NC and the quality and quantity are not the same as they were. Ive tried to go back as well several times since there expansion in GA. Even lowering my expectations as well but just not that good as when they were starting out. If others like Cookout then I am glad for the company.
Can you clarify. It is a bit confusing. Is Establishment opening this weekend or will it only open after some outside stairs are built.
Thanks for the update on this new hot spot.
@Anon RE: Establishment,
My apologies for the confusion. The decision has been made to push to the opening until such a time that staircase is completed. The stairs will allow for easy and nearby access to the restaurant and therefore it made sense to delay the opening for it to be completed.
Thanks for your readership and comments, I appreciate them both.
Awesome news about Culver's, closest one right now is outside of Nashville. Great frozen custard!
Excited about Culver's as well, still missing Sheridan's after all these years
Re Briarcliff Center facelift: Glad to hear this. After the other end of that eyesore center was demo'd for a brand new QT, that side needed some TLC. I remember going to Barwick's Pharmacy in my youth where they still had an old fashioned soda fountain counter and sandwiches. It was also the only place you could still find those black and white notebooks (with permanent pages) that our Briarcliff High science teachers still required in the mid 80s for lab reports.
The COOKOUTS here in Atlanta taste nothing like the ones in other markets. The ones in Charleston. Augusta and Charlotte taste waaaaay bettert!!!
Nice spelling on the sign in the picture "Braircliff"
