UPDATE: LongHorn Steakhouse to Begin Construction Monday at Toco Hills

Neighborhood favorite to return this summer.

LongHorn Steakhouse, part of Orlando, Florida-based Darden Restaurants, will start to rebuild its restaurant at Toco Hills this coming Monday, March 21st.  The restaurant has been closed since early June 2014 when a fire, believed to have started in the restaurant's kitchen,  caused tremendous damage.  The partially burned restaurant sat idle for months before it was finally demolished in early February of last year.

Zoning and variance related requests began to appear at the property last summer but work never got off the ground.
Heidi Schauer, media representative for LongHorn told me by phone this week that with construction slated to begin Monday, the restaurant should be on schedule for a mid to late August reopening.

Schauer went on to say, "We are really excited to be reopening at Toco Hills. We know that our guests have missed us and we look forward to serving the community this summer."

Are you excited to finally be seeing progress towards LongHorn's reopening?  What is your favorite LongHorn menu item?  Has anyone seen Flo?

My Father was a sales person and the original Longhorns was one of his customers. He wrote up several locations while George ? still owned the company.

I’ve tried to focus less on eating red meat and more chicken/fish and all that. However, if I do visit Longhorns it’s going to be their rib eye I think they call it the Renegade.

Looking forward to getting Longhorn back, but hope the restaurant is better managed than the days before they closed. Ever since their manager Michael moved on to another store, the service just wasn't as good.

The mid-priced steakhouses like Longhorn and Outback typically have some pretty good chicken and seafood entrees as well. I am glad that this restaurant is coming back. As the Outback up the street has declined, this location is a great opportunity for them.

I've tried to focus more on eating squirrels and tater tots. I live just down a piece from there and there's lots of squirrels running around, hopefully less 'cos I wanted to catch 'em and grill them on me there Colemans barbecue.
Anywho, glad to see the Longhorns place coming back for you fancy folks. Me and Ernie salute you!

The previous Longhorn was dirty, and the food quality was seriously lacking. I have never been able to understand the appeal of Longhorn, and was hoping something new would open in this space. I'm disappointed that Longhorn has been so tenacious about rebuilding this restaurant.
