Bits & Bites

Pita by the Beirut Pita Mediterranean Street Food will celebrate the grand opening of its newest location this Friday, September 2nd, in Marietta Kennesaw.  The new restaurant was originally slated to open August 18th and later the 26th, but had its opening pushed to make sure everything was perfect. The restaurant is located on Prado Lane, just off Barrett Parkway, in a space previously occupied by Bob Steele Salon.  Pita has other locations in Peachtree City, Newnan, Dunwoody and Roswell.
A new freestanding Burger King is planned for 496 Jimmy DeLoach Parkway in Savannah.

The new Pollo Tropical in an outparcel of the Target in Tucker is currently slated for a September 10th opening.

Pita Pit, a franchise chain with U.S. headquarters in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, is also opening a new restaurant in Kennesaw.  The new Pita Pit is located at 4100 Jiles Road. The Mediterranean chain has other Georgia locations in midtown, Columbus and Athens. Pita Pit previously operated in downtown Decatur, but that location closed in 2013.

Peloton has opened its new store at Lenox Square in Buckhead.  The store is located on the second floor near Macy's.  Launched in 2012, New York-based Peloton sells stationary bicycles through its website and in showrooms like the new store at Lenox.  "Peloton offers a completely immersive fitness experience, with the technology, performance metrics and social connectivity to make every workout both effective and addicting. Equipped with a 22-inch high-definition, sweat-proof touchscreen, this is the first and only fitness bike to fully integrate a home workout machine with live group cycling classes, allowing for interaction and competition with fellow riders across the country and real-time instructor feedback, while monitoring an array of output metrics."

The existing Kroger at Cambridge Square will soon begin renovations.  The center is located at the corner of Ashford Dunwoody and Johnson Ferry Road in Brookhaven.  There is no indication that the approximately 41,000 square foot store will be expanded, only that it (a former Harris Teeter) will be extensively renovated.

Chef and TV Host Harry Pagancoss has signed a lease to open "Caravaca Market" at The Trace, a new mixed-use development in Midtown Atlanta. Caravaca Market, a new restaurant concept, will consist of 5,981 square feet of street level space and will include an urban market. The market will also have a bakery & cafe, wine shop, and craft beer bar. The Trace is located at 780 Peachtree Street on the southwest corner of Peachtree and Fifth Streets. The residential tower will consist of 12 stories and will include 290 upscale apartment units along with the restaurant space. The new mixed-use development is set to complete construction in the fall of 2016 and is being constructed by developer JLB Partners.

A new Jack's will be opening soon on Martha Berry Highway in Rome.  The new, approximately 3,500 square foot restaurant was built in place of a one-time SunTrust bank. The property is near Mount Berry Square Mall.  Jack's, started by Jack Caddell in November 1960, was launched and is still based in Homewood, Alabama.  Originally a single walk-up stand, the chain has modernized and updated both its brand and appearance, and today includes a full dining room and drive-thru at its over 130 locations.

Atlanta-based Metrotainment Cafes plans to open its third concept at Brookhaven Station later this fall.  Hoping to ride the wave of heightened interest in soccer (Atlanta United FC will debut at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2017), the restaurant group is launching Hudson FC, which will be soccer-themed and focused.  Hudson FC is set to open by mid-October at Brookhaven Station on Peachtree Road.  The restaurant will occupy the former Pub 71 space and join fellow Metrotainment concepts in the center, Hudson Grille and Sugar Shack. The bar and restaurant will show soccer and rugby matches as well as other popular international sporting events.  Hudson FC will offer a similar menu to its sister concept Hudson Grille (which has seven metro Atlanta locations), with a few differences. Offerings will include traditional pub food such as fish and chips, a pork and beef meatloaf big plate, and a variety of flatbreads. Metrotainment Cafes also operates Einstein’s and Joe’s on Juniper in Midtown, Guaco Joe’s in Vinings, Cowtippers in Ansley Park, and Sugar Shack in Brookhaven, in the same shopping center where Hudson FC will be located.

The existing Texaco gas station on Roswell Road and Midvale Drive in north Buckhead is being converted into a Chevron.  Texaco is a subsidiary of the Chevron Corporation.

Great news on the Kroger at Cambridge Square renovation. I generally really like Kroger, but this location is terrible. It feels like a morgue in there.

Who is Harry Pagancoss? Literally never heard of him. Pretty significant undertaking for an unknown.

Don't think I have seen it in previous bits and bites posts, but the Tazikis in Toco Hills finally opened up in the last week or so. Stopped in for lunch today, space looks good and the food was great.

Is Pita By the Beirut re branding themselves to Pita Mediterranean Street Food? They need to add more spice to their foods but the food is still good. They might want to consider serving more desserts. There is always room for dessert.
