Pizza Out Cold in Buckhead, Ramen on Tap

Ramen coming to Buckhead

Jinya Ramen Bar, the Los Angeles-based ramen franchise, will open its next metro Atlanta location next year in Buckhead.  The popular ramen eatery which opened their first Atlanta area location in early July at Hammond Springs shopping center on Roswell Road near Hammond Drive, has inked a lease for a new location in Powers Ferry Square on Roswell Road in Buckhead.  Although both restaurants are on Roswell Road, they are over four miles apart and will seek to serve completely different markets.

The new Buckhead location will be 2,400 square feet, about 700 square feet larger than the Sandy Springs restaurant.  In Buckhead, Jinya replaces Uncle Maddio's Pizza Joint which closed last month after nearly four years in business.  As a chain, Uncle Maddio's has been struggling as of late with multiple closures both locally and in surrounding markets over the past year or so.

According to the Jinya Ramen Bar, there are currently fifteen locations domestically with another three (not counting Buckhead) expected to open soon.  There are also five existing locations in Canada with a sixth on the way.
A source close to the restaurant indicated to me that the new Buckhead location should open in the first half of next year.
For those unaware, ramen is a Japanese soup dish that often consists of Chinese-style wheat noodles served in a meat- or fish-based broth.  The soup is often flavored with soy sauce or miso, a traditional Japanese seasoning.  Popular ramen toppings  include sliced pork, egg, dried seaweed, and green onions.

While Qing Mu at The Shops Buckhead Atlanta serves a ramen-like dish, ramen is rather hard to find in Buckhead.  In Atlanta, Ton Ton at Ponce City Market is the ramen-centric eatery from Chef Guy Wong and although new, it is already incredibly popular. (Wong previously served his popular ramen at Miso Izakya in the Old Fourth Ward but has since transitioned those offerings to the Ton Ton menu.)

In Reynoldstown, the crew behind Decatur's Makan Restaurant & Bar and the upcoming Suzy Siu's Baos in Krog Street Market is planning a new ramen shop.  Located in the new Larkin on Memorial development by Paces Properties, Ramen Station is expected to open next summer and will serve both ramen and steamed buns, among other offerings.

Have you been to Jinya in Sandy Springs?  Are you excited for Jinya to be opening in Buckhead?  What is your favorite ramen shop in Atlanta?

Been to Jinya once in Sandy Springs about 2 weeks ago. Crowded, very slow production of food, way overpriced for what it is. I'm going to cook a .19c bar of ramen in chicken stock and throw a slice of cold (wouldn't you think this would be warm at least) chicken breast on top and sell it for some crazy multiple.
