Michel Arnette to Open New Steakhouse in Brookhaven

Michel Arnette of Word of Mouth Restaurants plans to open in Brookhaven a new steakhouse early next year.  The Steakhouse, something Brookhaven has been without, will open in the new "Apple Valley Brookhaven" project at 2700 Apple Valley Road.

Apple Valley Brookhaven is the former Bagcraft Papercon warehouse which was purchased by Stream Realty Partners and re-designed by Perkins + Will.   The newly renovated industrial modern warehouse project encompasses 70,000 square feet of loft office space on a 3-acre parcel.

Arnette opened his first restaurant, HAVEN, in Brookhaven in late 2003.  Since then he added Valenza in 2007 and Vero pizzeria in late 2015.  All three of the existing restaurants are at Village Parkplace on Dresden Drive.

The steakhouse, Arnette's Chop Shop, will comprise about 5,000 square feet over two floors, with the kitchen, dining room and patio on the lower level, and an upscale bar on the upper level.  A grand staircase that invites you to an upscale bar on the upper level will also offer an outdoor bar and lounge seating.  Arnette describes his new establishment as a "neighborhood steakhouse and bar." The restaurant will be designed by Jay George of WJG Design.

Arnette's will reportedly be the only full-service restaurant in the Apple Valley Brookhaven project.

While some may say Atlanta has too many steakhouses, Arnette's likely hopes to serve the Brookhaven/Chamblee area the way Kaiser's Chophouse, a new steakhouse from Peter Kaiser and Kevin Rathbun, is trying to serve the Sandy Springs community.

I have been in communication with Arnette for months after first hearing talk of his planned Apple Valley steakhouse last summer.  Last week, Arnette confirmed to me that the ink is dry on his lease and that he expects to start construction "sometime in September."

Word of Mouth Executive Chef and partner Stephen Herman will be the chef at Arnette's which is currently expected to open in "early 2018."

Arnette also confirmed that he still plans to open "The Royal," his American diner-era restaurant, in a former service station on Peachtree Boulevard in Chamblee.   ToNeTo Atlanta was first to announce Arnette's plans for the space in late 2014, but infrastructure needs of the space have yet to be be completely worked out.

Are you excited for the addition of a steakhouse to the Brookhaven community? What is your favorite Word of Mouth Restaurants concept?  If you live in Brookhaven, will you avoid Buckhead steakhouses with this new option so close?

Please share your thoughts below.

Great news! Hopefully this development and restaurant can spark that area around the park. Did he happen to mention what the major holdback was on The Royal?

Great news! Hopefully it will help spark some other developments around the park and 2700 Apple Valley. Did he specify the major issue that is causing the delay in The Royal?

160 IHOPs and Applebee's will close this year. I seem to be coping with the news remarkably well. Link.

Buckhead has something like 8 dedicated steakhouses and I'm sure a smattering of other restaurants that have good steak offerings. Brookhaven, however, does not seem to have any so this should be a great fit for that area and provide more upscale dining options.
