Bits & Bites [Atlanta Commercial Real Estate News]

Carlo's Bake Shop will open their second Atlanta area location next month at Cumberland Mall.  The first shop opened this past April at Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody.  The new shop, which looks just like the Perimeter Mall location is in place but still needs to be built out internally and staffed. Sources say the new shop is on track to open Friday,   September 16 in the center court of Cumberland Mall.   Carlo's Bake Shop is based in Hoboken, New Jersey and is owned by Bartolo "Buddy" Valastro, Jr., star of the popular TLC reality show "Cake Boss."   Both Perimeter and Cumberland Malls are owned and operated by General Growth Properties (GGP).
Near the Cumberland Carlo's, Starbucks and Häagen-Dazs are both closed for renovations.  Sources indicate that Starbucks will assume control of the entire space and that Häagen-Dazs will relocate to another space within the mall. For its part, Häagen-Dazs also recently opened a new shop nearby at The Battery Atlanta.

Also at Cumberland Mall, Bezoria plans to open its third overall location early next year. The growing quick serve Mediterranean eatery, with existing locations in Midtown and Alpharetta, will open on the mall's first level across from Jason's Deli in the former Post Office in addition to a couple of other small spaces.  The restaurant will be about 2,300 square feet and should open in February according to co-founder Yogi Patel.  Bezoria co-founder Imtiaz Ramzan will own and operate the Cumberland restaurant.

Baby Love, a locally owned baby and kids boutique, has moved to from Grant Park to the Tucker area.  The store, formerly located at 465 Boulevard, reopened August 12th at 2244 Henderson Mill Road, near Northlake Mall.  Lauren Hise, the store's owner, first opened the shop in 2011 and decided to move to the Tucker area due in part to the fact that she was attracted to the Northlake/Tucker community and saw a need in the area for a store like hers.  Baby Love specializes in maternity, baby and kids' (up to age 6) clothing, shoes and toys featuring products that are eco-friendly, recycled, organic and locally made.  The shop also carries all natural soaps, detergents, and stain removers and reportedly offers the state's largest selection of cloth diapers.  The store also offers a number of classes and workshops such as a complimentary "intro to cloth diaper" class at 10AM the first Saturday of every month.   The new store, which measures about 2,400 square feet, is slightly larger than the Grant Park space, and even offers an enclosed playroom for kids to play in while parents or grandparents shop.  Baby Love is open Tuesday through Sunday and is located in the small center across from Northlake Mall where Verizon used to be and Pizza Hut moved to, accessible from both Briarcliff Road and Henderson Mill Road.

Bojangles' on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Duluth opened Tuesday morning. A new Dunkin' Donuts is planned for Kennesaw Due West Road in Kennesaw.  The new doughnut and coffee shop will be constructed on vacant land adjacent to ServisFirst Bank, at the corner of Kennesaw Due West Road and Cobb Parkway, across the street from the Goodwill-anchored Kennesaw Landing shopping center.

Bulla Gastrobar plans to open next Thursday, August 31 at 60 11th Street NE in the 12th & Midtown development. The restaurant, part of Doral, Florida-based Centurion Restaurant Group, will be open for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch.  Unfortunately, given the red tape at the City of Atlanta, the restaurant is opening without its liquor license, something it hopes to secure "soon."

Contemporary furniture retailer Ligne Roset plans to move from Midtown to Buckhead.  The store, currently located at 805 Peachtree in Midown, will move to a temporary space at The Shops Buckhead Atlanta next Friday after closing in Midtown next Thursday.  The retailer plans to reopen in its permanent home, the former Hermes next to Fado Irish Pub, later this November.  If you are a fan of the store's furniture, act fast, as existing in-stock merchandise at their midtown location is currently 30-90% off.

The new The North Face store at Lenox Square in Buckhead announced yesterday that it plans to lower prices at its newly acquired Whole Foods Market division this coming Monday, August 28.  "Whole Foods Market will offer lower prices starting Monday on a selection of best-selling grocery staples across its stores, with more to come."  This news comes on the heels of Whole Food's board approving the acquisition and the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) saying it would not block the deal. Amazon also said it plans to offer exclusive offers and deals for Amazon Prime members.
