Bits & Bites

Bad Daddy's Burger Bar plans to open its first of three confirmed Atlanta area locations Monday January 8 in Chamblee.  The new restaurant will be located along Peachtree Boulevard in the new Parkview on Peachtree development.  Another Bad Daddy's is expected to open in Smyrna later in 2018 and near Decatur in late 2018 or early 2019.

Riverside Pizza in Tucker closed December 23.  The restaurant, located on Lawrenceville Highway near LaVista Road across from Cofer Crossing, had reopened March 10, 2015.  Owners Scott and Jean Ann Weaver "may" reopen in elsewhere at another time but made the difficult decision to cease operations in Tucker.  Company founders Al & Sandy Thompson opened the first Riverside Pizza in Lawrenceville in 1999.  Following the closure of the Tucker location, there are nine locations still in operation.

A new 20 pump Speedway gas station at the corner of Mountain Industrial and East Ponce de Leon is making its way through the zoning and planning process with The City of Tucker.  ToNeTo Atlanta was first informed of the planned convenience store and gas station at 5448 East Ponce de Leon Avenue earlier this year but sources say it is now far enough along that it's nearly a forgone conclusion that it will be built.  New Speedway locations are also planned for 3205 Stone Mountain Highway in Snellville and in Lilburn at East Lawrenceville Highway, at its intersection with Harmony Grove Road.  Speedway, a wholly owned subsidiary of fuel provider Marathon, re-entered the metro Atlanta market last year.  The company today operates locations in Norcross, Lawrenceville and Alpharetta.  Speedway also hoped to open a new location in Kennesaw, but after being denied by the city of Kennesaw, is suing the city.  Sources say the suit is ongoing.

RaceTrac plans to open its new Brookhaven location at the corner of Dresden Drive and Clairmont Road this Friday December 29.

Sonic has closed its restaurant on Mercer University Drive in Macon, less than a mile from the struggling Macon Mall.  The restaurant, which first opened in 2001, closed about two weeks ago

A new Taco Bell is planned for 3315 Centerville Highway in Snellville.

Poke Bar, the California-based poke eatery that debuted in Atlanta last fall and has since opened four more locations in the area, has a sixth coming soon, and as many as seven more in the works.  The first Atlanta area Poke Bar opened on Roswell Road at Abernathy Road in Sandy Springs and has more recently been joined by new locations in Johns Creek, Edgewood, Duluth and Suwanee.  Poke Bar is is also opening at Parkview on Peachtree in Chamblee.  Another Poke Bar will open on Peachtree Parkway in Peachtree Corners ("Preachtree" Corners on the Poke Bar website) in Peachtree Marketplace shopping center, where Aldi opened earlier this year.  According to the Poke Bar website, other Georgia locations are planned for Dunwoody, Buckhead, Vinings, Athens, Alpharetta, Midtown, and Kennesaw.

El Toro Mexican restaurant on Northlake Parkway near Northlake Mall closed this past Saturday.

Himalayas Indian Restaurant at Chamblee Plaza in Chamblee will be closing Sunday December 31.  Ownership is reportedly looking to reopen elsewhere, but has yet to sign a lease.

So sad to hear the Northlake El Toro closed. We loved going there. Wonder if the new Willy's took some of their business? Northlake is still really lacking good restaurants.

Wonder if Opening of Big Daddy in Parkview will bring out the parking comments similar to Town Brookhaven. When you drive by the Big Daddy, it is hard to see where you would park and we all know the subject of parking in ATL gets people going. Hope residents give enough business to this new venture. It looks like a big space to fill. Thx for the update

Plenty of parking at Parkview and Big Daddys. On street parking inside the complex and a huge deck. You can also park at Kewsick Park and walk the rail trail to the development.

So glad to hear the RaceTrac on Clairmont is opening today. I've been patiently waiting as I drive by it daily.
