[CLOSURE ALERT] Pollo Tropical Shutters Four More Metro Locations

Fiesta Restaurant Group Inc., the Dallas, Texas-based owner of the Pollo Tropical restaurant chain, quietly closed four more Atlanta area locations December 4.  The four locations were on Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway in Hiram, Cobb Parkway South in Marietta, Bullsboro Drive in Newnan and Dawsonville Highway in Gainesville.

All four locations opened last year: Hiram on May 7, Marietta on June 11, Gainesville on July 30 and Newnan on August 13.

This past April, Pollo Tropical closed 30 locations, primarily in Tennessee and Texas, but also three in Georgia.  The three Georgia locations were in Alpharetta, Cumming and Johns Creek.  The Johns Creek location is expected to reopen next Thursday, December 21 as an Arby's.  The Alpharetta and Cumming locations are reportedly still vacant.  A Pollo Tropical restaurant on Johnson Ferry in East Cobb that closed last fall is expected to be demolished and rebuilt as a Regions Bank.

Following the most recent closures, Pollo Tropical continues to operate nine locations in Georgia in McDonough, Smyrna, Tucker, Austell, Snellville, Lawrenceville, Woodstock, Buford and Kennesaw.

Are you surprised that Pollo Tropical is closing so many locations?  What restaurant or other business would you like to see open in place of the recently shuttered Atlanta area locations?  What is your favorite quick-serve chicken chain?

Please share your thoughts below

Extremely poor management at the Tucker location the two times I've gone. It continually blows me away how much money must go into franchises like this just to piss it all away on poor staffing.

That Regions Bank burns me up! No more banks in East Cobb Please!!! I have never seen so many banks, retirement homes, drug stores and dental stores in one area. WHF! can we get a Burger King??

I always thought that location near the big chicken was a terrible spot demographics wise. Just never seemed like a fit for that area

The Akers Mill location always seems busy so glad to see it staying open. I like their bowls. Sort of like burrito bowls. And reasonably priced

The Tucker location began as a nightmare but they have improved greatly. We were there Friday at 1pm. Good service. Nice crowd.

I love this restaurant. Sad to see so many closing but wasn't surprised to see the EC one go. TERRIBLE service that took over 20 minutes for an order that was usually wrong...

Does the Tucker one still have an empty salsa bar? Nothing but holes in the counter when I was there

Aw I enjoy Burger King as well. You can't get a combo #1 at a bank! 😇

The location in Hiram looks to have closed in the last few days as well.

Went to the Tucker location when they opened. Never ever going to Pollo, had bad stomach feeling. Unhygienic and dirty employees.

Glad to hear that we weren't the only ones who had a bad experience at the Tucker location. We've being going to Florida locations for years. Actually went to the one near the Mall of Georgia when the finally returned to the Metro and it was good. Was extremely disappointed by Tucker. Went a few times and each time the service was slow, the restaurant was always cold, the salsa bar sad looking. They wouldn't give you black beans and rice as one side but said that rice was a side. My kids love their black beans and rice but you couldn't get it with a kids meal because they decided to call it two items instead of one.

The Tucker location is the only one I've been to and every time it's a disappointment. The food is somewhat healthy for fast food but the place is never clean and the manager is too busy to manage and is helping in the kitchen instead. That's why most fast food restaurants won't last except for Chick fil A which is much better managed.

How is Hiram, Newnan and Gainesville in the Metro Atlanta area?

Anonymous your really dumb if you think Hiram, Newnan, and Gainesville aren’t part of Metro Atlanta, I used to live near Hiram in the unincorporated part of Douglasville you need to get a job at Channel 2 Action News then because you obviously have no clue how far Metro Atlanta goes down either, so that’s like you assume Panama City Beach Florida where I live now is Lower Alabama Lol! 😂

Anonymous 3:11 is a carpetbagger and is geographically challenged. Research before you post please. Thank you.

Cody, you should really think twice about posting your name and
picture before you attack someone. Talk about dumb.

@10:33, Not really sure how a 50 year old native of Atlanta is
considered a carpetbagger, but I'm sure you know everything.

Two little losers...

Strange, I am the original poster @3:11. It seems my innocent
question turned into something silly. Oh well, it's the internet.

@ 11:27 You are NOT a native Atlantan, otherwise you would know the cities that are in the Atlanta metropolitan statistical area.

One BIG Loser ... Bless Your Heart!
