Dahe Yang is bringing Tasty China back to Sandy Springs. The new Tasty China will open alongside Mediterranean eatery Cafe Posh in the Kroger anchored Fountain Oaks shopping center on Roswell Road, just inside the perimeter. The new Tasty China will occupy a 3,172 square foot space to the left of Kroger, near TCBY.
Tasty China, started by award winning chef Peter Chang and known for its Szechuan fare, has two existing locations in Smyrna, one on Franklin Road (the original) and the other on Atlanta Road (opened last year). In late 2015, Yang partnered with executive chef Jiguo Jiang to open Jia, a Szechuan restaurant in the central food hall at Ponce City Market.
The original Tasty China in Sandy Springs was located on Powers Ferry Road near the Chattahoochee River. The restaurant closed in 2014 and Peter Chang has reportedly not been involved in subsequent iterations of the restaurant locally. There is an entire wikipedia page dedicated to tracking Chang's seemingly endless movements from state to state, restaurant to restaurant.
Ray Schoenbaum, proprietor of Ray's in Sandy Springs, downtown and Alpharetta, tried to reboot what had been one of his most popular eateries, Rio Bravo, in the former Tasty China space. The restaurant opened in August 2015 but closed abruptly in February 2017 and today is vacant.
According to an employee at the Atlanta Road location, the new Tasty China in Sandy Springs is expected to open in May.
As ToNeTo Atlanta was first to report last week, a franchise of New Jersey-based healthy eatery Frutta Bowls is also opening in Fountain Oaks in the coming months.
Are you excited about the opening of Tasty China in Sandy Springs? What other restaurants would you like to see added to Fountain Oaks? Have you been to Tasty China in Smyrna both before and after Chang's involvement? Is it just as good?

Tasty China is soooo overrated!
While it is indeed your opinion, I believe you to be absolutely incorrect in your assertion. Complex dishes and flavors executed consistently—if you've had an experience otherwise, perhaps extrapolate with more than a meritless hot take.
If anything, I fail to understand the acclaim around the much-touted Szechuan restaurant Masterpiece. Their dishes lack the nuanced preparation Tasty China delivers. Their dry-fried eggplant and Bamboo fish equivalents are under-seasoned and under-fried. Additionally the wait for food is always prolonged.
Any updates as to when the new location is opening?
