[UPDATE] La Fonda to Reopen on Peachtree Road in Buckhead!

After receiving a number of inquiries from eager patrons, ToNeTo Atlanta is pleased to report that well-placed sources close to the Fellini's Pizza group indicate that they plan to reopen their La Fonda Latina restaurant on Peachtree Road later this spring.

The restaurant, located near the corner of Rumson and Peachtree Roads in Garden Hills, has been closed since late 2015. In 2015, plans were for a refresh and renovation and eventual reopening.  It's unclear what stalled the progress, but recent work completed at the restaurant reflects an upgraded restaurant that appears nearly ready to reopen.

Our source was hopeful that the restaurant would reopen "in May," perhaps in time for Cinco de Mayo, but alas the typical City of Atlanta permitting process (perhaps exacerbated by the recent ransomware attack) could slow the opening.  If the opening did happen on Cinco de Mayo, it would be especially meaningful for the restaurant group, as the Fellini's Pizza adjacent to which La Fonda is located was the group's first, and opened May 5, 1982.

In addition to the Peachtree Road La Fonda, owners Clay Harper and Mike Nelson operate La Fonda restaurants in Sandy Springs/North Buckhead, Candler Park, Westside and Midtown.  The duo also operate Fellini's Pizza restaurants in Buckhead, Sandy Springs/North Buckhead, Westside, Midtown, Candler Park, Decatur and Oak Grove and The Greater Good BBQ restaurants in Sandy Springs/North Buckhead, Tucker and East Lake.

Are you excited for the return of La Fonda to Buckhead?  If a new La Fonda were to open, where should it be located?  What is your favorite casual restaurant in Buckhead?

So glad they tore down the historic Garden Hills Cinema for a vacant fenced off lot. That is #soatlanta.

I thought the La Fonda was going away in favor of a larger Fellini's with more parking? Is that still happening? It is very sad that Garden Hills strip went away. I heard Clay and his partners put in an offer and were planning on keeping the Cinema…

I thought they were building an apartment building and putting the Fellini's/La Fonda on the ground floor? Is that still happening?

Hard to understand your sentence, but it's worth pointing out that the purportedly soon to be reopened La Fonda was the building housing the original Fellini's. The adjacent Fellini's was the Buckhead Bike Shop.

I'm glad it's re-opening, but I hope the parking situation improves.

The historic Garden Hills Cinema caught on fire and was destroyed beyond repair. #soignorant

How does this impact the remodel of the Fellini's that was originally reported by Buckhead View back in 2016?

Seems like that will not happen now.

Very exciting. What is the status of the Brand development next door in the grassy area where GH Cinema used to be?

I'm so glad LaFonda will return but what a shame they removed the roof terrace---probably a building code issue, but hey, I'm dying for some paella, hope they will still be serving it

Take Uber...leave the damn car at home so you don't have to worry about parking. I can't wait till the idea of driving yourself everywhere is as foreign as the idea of taking a taxi has become.

Sorry but that won't happen in your lifetime. It sure didn't happen in mine!

Why would you mention Cinco de Mayo? La Fonda is not a Mexican restaurant.
