Starbucks Scores Space in Buckhead Target Store

The Target at Lenox Marketplace will soon undergo a renovation that will see the additon of a Starbucks to its store.  The two level, 163,000+ square foot Target, opened in 1999, and currently has a Pizza Hut Express and self branded cafe as its food offerings.  The cafe is located on the store's second level, close to the entrance.

A permit filed earlier this month with the City of Atlanta indicates plans for "Interior Alteration to include new wall, ceiling and floor finishes, fixtures, lighting updates, fitting room and toilet room partitions, reconfiguration of guest services and offices, Starbucks fixtures and finishes."

The permit estimates the cost of the renovation at $1.1 million.

There is already a Starbucks in the Target in Lindbergh Plaza, known as the "Buckhead South" location.

The new Starbucks in Target's Lenox Marketplace store would mark the return of the coffee shop to the center after a nearly 20 year absence.  Starbucks previously operated a shop within defunct home store dekor at the corner of Peachtree and Oak Valley Roads.  The shop opened within dekor when the store opened in 2000, and closed when the store liquidated in late 2001 following a Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Buckhead is, of course, not short on Starbucks locations.  Within two miles of the new Target Starbucks there are already seven Starbucks locations with a eighth expected to open soon in the new Three Alliance Center building on Lenox Road near Georgia 400.

Existing Starbucks within a two mile radius of the new shop in the Buckhead Target include:

Cherokee Plaza with drive-thru

Phipps Plaza
Lenox Square (2)
Terminus
Piedmont Peachtree Crossing shopping center with drive thru
Within Barnes & Noble at The Peach shopping center

As we announced yesterday, Target is also spending $1.1 million to renovate its existing store in Kennsaw off Barrett Parkway. Our friend Bill Read, Executive Vice President at Retail Specialists, a full-service, retail-centric real estate company, published a great article yesterday entitled "How to Tell if Your Target Store has been Remodeled."  In the article Read shared detailed accounts of his visits to many regional Target stores and their varying levels of remodel.

Are you surprised that Starbucks is opening yet another Buckhead location?   Have your visits to Starbucks decreased as more and more local and regional coffee shops have come to metro Atlanta?  Where in metro Atlanta is your go to for coffee?

Please share your thoughts below.

Will this Starbucks allow non-customers to bring in their own water bottles and hang out at the tables using free wi-fi? One day the masses will come to understand Starbucks is not a good use of time or money.

Now that Jittery Joe's is open on Pharr Rd, I get my coffee fix there! So much better than Starbucks. Coming from a plain/black coffee drinker.

@ 7:14 AM LQQK at YOU! You'll be like every other person that leaves their half full cup of Starsucks sitting on a shelf littering the store. Starbucks and Target are a perfect combination, two dying liberal retailers pandering to the lowest common denominators of society. Bottoms UP!

Starbucks coffee requires unhealthy fat and sugar to make it palatable. No thank you
