The owners of Universal Joint, Steinbeck's and Oakhurst Market are planning a new restaurant in a new neighborhood. Marc Brennan, Tracy Crowley and chef Andy Gonzales plan to open an as yet unnamed new restaurant at 2316 Marietta Road in the coming months. The 1,500 square foot 2316 building dates from 1920, and was for many years home to Adams Hardware. The property is located near the corner of Bolton and Marietta Roads in northwest Atlanta.
ToNeTo Atlanta reported in late 2015 that Fox Bros BBQ was in lease negotiations to lease both the 2316 and adjacent 2324 property, a two story 5,500 square foot building, but a lease was never finalized. Sources indicate that Brennan has expressed interest in the 2324 building as well, but there are no current plans to lease it as well. Fox Bros. opened at The Battery Atlanta at SunTrust Park last year.
Brennan opened Universal Joint Decatur in 2000 followed by Steinbeck's in 2006 and Oakhurst Market in 2011. Brennan and Crowley are also partners in Universal Joint locations in Lawrenceville, Clayton, Chattanooga and Asheville as well as Brake Pad in College Park, among other restaurants.
After multiple attempts to reach Marc Brennan were unsuccessful, we did reach Chef Gonzales who confirmed that a lease has been signed and who said of the new concept "it won’t be a Universal Joint. We plan on doing something bar-related and we love the space and the neighborhood."
Chef Gonzales did not indicate how soon he and Brennan hope to have the new restaurant open but seeing as they have not started and no permits are on file, it may be some time.
Marc Brennan registered Bolton "Road Restaurant Group, Inc." with the Georgia Secretary of State's office this past December.
Atlanta-based brokerage Vantage Realty Partners, which previously marketed both the 2316 and 2324 properties as a pair, has updated their materials to only include the 2324 property for lease.
Are you excited for the addition of a new restaurant in the neighborhood? What type of eatery would you most like to see open in the area? Have you been to Steinbeck's or Universal Joint?
