Bits & Bites

Texas Roadhouse plans to open its new Buford restaurant in December.  The restaurant, which is still under construction at the corner of  Buford Drive and Plunkett Road, is the tenth in the Atlanta area for the Louisville, Kentucky-based chain.  The chain operates existing Atlanta area restaurants in Snellville, Marietta and Cumming, among other areas.  The new Texas Roadhouse will be the first tenant to open in the new "Gateway" development currently under construction.  ToNeTo Atlanta was first to report in June that a new Season's 52 restaurant is planned nearby, also on Buford Drive, in an outparcel of Mall of Georgia, also on Buford Drive.
The Shopping Center Group is marketing the freestanding Mattress Firm store in The Village at Druid Hills.  The store, in a 4,000 square foot space, has great visibility and access from both Briarcliff and North Druid Hills Roads.  The listing refers to the space as an "exceptional freestanding intown opportunity."   The store was not previously announced to be closing as part of Mattress Firm's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, but the fact that it's being marketed indicates it's likely on its way out.

Chick-fil-A will be closing their popular Chastain Park area restaurant on Roswell Road this coming Friday, November 16 at 10:30AM.  The closure, which is to execute a limited renovation, is expected to be brief, with current plans projecting reopening Friday, December 21.  The renovation will include new fixtures and features in the dining area, an enlarged drive-thru area, a  reconfigured kitchen and select other touches.  The work will be similar to work completed last year at the Chick-fil-A on Roswell Road in Marietta.  Just north of Chick-fil-A, McDonald's has been closed for over a week now, as they work to complete renovations of their own, but unlike Chick-fil-A, the restaurant's drive-thru has remained opened during the work.

Real Estate firm Edens is partnering with multifamily developer Crescent Communities to bring NOVEL Upper Westside to Phase 2 of their Moores Mill redevelopment.  The apartment development, which will include one, two and three bedroom units, will bring a total of 345 apartments to the burgeoning "upper westside."  The project is expected to begin to welcome residents in early 2020. In addition to the apartments, the project will also bring an additional 15,000 square feet of retail space to the area.  A new 45,600 square foot Publix anchors Phase 1 of the project that also boasts over 24,000 square feet of additional retail space.  The new NOVEL apartment community will the third NOVEL branded property in metro Atlanta.  NOVEL Perimeter recently opened on Glenridge Drive in the Central Perimeter District and includes 320 apartments.  NOVEL O4W is currently under construction on North Avenue near Ponce City Market, and when completed next fall, will include 233 units.  Crescent has had at least one other recent presence in the Atlanta area, Crescent Terminus in Buckhead and Crescent Howell Mill on the Westside, but both properties were sold to an affiliate of Berkshire Group in late 2014 and both now carry the Berkshire name.

A new Tropical Smoothie Cafe is coming to Moores Mill.  The new smoothie shop will open in a 2,224 square foot space in Phase 1 of the Publix anchored development at Moores Mill and Bolton Roads.

Bring it OM Yoga Studio is opening at Andrews Square in Buckhead in the 2,646 square foot former Fit9 studio space.  Bring it OM, being opened by business partners Elizabeth Beggs and Leti Lopez, should not be confused with Bring it OM Power Yoga, which opened this past August on Johnson Ferry and Shallowford Roads in Marietta.  Fit9 was forced to move to another space across the street after noise complaints from its downstairs neighbors.  Bring it OM is likely to produce far less noise than its predecessor.

Texas Roadhouse is my favorite of the less expensive steakhouses. I think it is much better than Outback or Longhorn and wish they would open one up a little closer in.

On Mattress Firm, the closing list is now up over 600 stores, but only 9 are in Georgia, and N. Druid Hills is NOT one of the stores currently slated to be closed.

Any news on the Hobnob supposedly going into the former Mimi's Cafe space near Perimeter? Their website says "coming summer 2018."

Do we have any updates on Breakers BBQ opening at Perimeter? I've been waiting for half a year now and I haven't seen any construction at all.

@Greenwave,

I spoke with a contact at Brookfield (formerly GGP) and they indicated that Breakers has two other restaurants coming to Brookfield malls and that for whatever reason, those got priority. They should start at Perimeter Q1 and open by late next year.

Thanks as always for your comments and readership.

Hobnob is now actively under construction after sitting quietly for some time, and seems to be making some good progress. Last week we could see taps installed at one of the bars, and some booths had been delivered. I would expect them to be open in a couple of months at the rate they are going.
