A new Hilton Garden Inn hotel is being proposed near the Century Center office complex on Clairmont Road just off Interstate 85 in DeKalb County. The five-story hotel would be developed by Suwanee-based DayBreak Hospitality LLC, and have 156 rooms plus retail/restaurant space, according to plans recently filed with the City of Chamblee.
Launched in 1996, the select service hotel franchise now has over 700 locations worldwide including more than a dozen in metro Atlanta.
The Chamblee hotel would be built on a 2.76 acre site on the east side of Clairmont Road between Century Place and Century Boulevard. The parcel represents the assemblage of 3051, 3063, 3071 and 3081 Clairmont Road. A sales listing on Lands of America, a CoStar Company, indicates the assemblage was being offered for $2.83 million. This imputes a valuation of $1,025,362 per acre.
A sales listing from Bull Realty, who offered the site for sale, indicates that property is currently zoned MU-BC (Mixed Use-Business Center District) and was proposed for multi-family development.
The approximately 115,000 square foot hotel is slated to include approximately 3,952 square feet of meeting space and 3,924 square feet of retail/restaurant space.
There area already a number of hotels in the immediate area including Extended Stay America and Holiday Inn Express (originally a Wingate by Wyndham), each with locations on Clairmont Road, and Marriott with a hotel in Century Center along I-85.
Some neighbors have suggested that the stalled redevelopment at Clairmont & Briarcliff Roads would be a good hotel site but there is no indication that idea would be any more well received than the prior proposal.
The hotel project, which is seeking a number of variances, is scheduled to go before the Chamblee Architectural Review Board Tuesday, December 4.
Are you a local resident excited by the prospect of having another hotel option in the area? What is your favorite hotel chain? What type of business would you most like to see open next in Chamblee?

There had been a proposal to build an apartment unit there in the last year or two. The biggest hangup at the time was that the only entrance / exit would be on Clairmont Road, adding to the traffic mess in that area in the afternoons. If I remember correctly, Chamblee city council approved the plans at the time. Not sure why it didn't go ahead. Hopefully they will push for a non-Clairmont entry point this time.
Before building anything there, the developers need to try to drive on Clairmont around 3-6PM any weekday. There's a reason that one office building has a cop out there directing traffic every day. It's a logjam. Good luck to anyone trying to stay at that hotel. Plan for delays.
is there any hotel site in Metro Atlanta that doesn't have a huge traffic mess between 3pm-6pm? Ever tried driving around Buckhead, downtown, midtown, Emory, Westside, Techwood, Mall of Georgia, Marietta or pretty much anywhere else in Atlanta during rush hour? Yes, traffic sucks. Anything built anywhere will increase traffic. That's just part of being a big city.
Poor deer!!! They have totally been run out of their natural habitats and are being hit by cars. Where will they go now?!
