[CLOSURE ALERT] Meating Street BBQ to Shutter in Roswell

Meating Street BBQ, the popular pop-up eatery turned restaurant, informed guests this week that they will serve their last lunch this coming Saturday, December 15.  The restaurant, which opened this past January, occupied a former Domino's Pizza in a small strip center along Alpharetta Street in Roswell.  The restaurant started as a pop up at Alive After 5 and Oak Street Cafe barbecue nights before opening their brick and mortar location.

In an email sent to patrons, the restaurant's owners, husband and wife Brian and Joanna Keenan, did not provide a reason for the closure but thanked the community for their support and encouragement.

The restaurant was a favorite of Scoop OTP contributor Joe Duffy as well as other ToNeTo Atlanta readers.

Duffy spoke with Keenan who said of the closure:

"The parking situation drained us over the summer and we’ve never recovered from the sales lost to disappointed customers who couldn’t park after careful plans to visit. We will recover and intend on looking into another location."

The restaurant's full release is seen below:

"To Our Valued Customers: On Saturday, December 15th, Meating Street BBQ will be serving its final lunch at 1294 Alpharetta St. in Roswell.

We will be open from 11am until Sold Out. All beer $2 all day until gone.

We are so extremely grateful for the support you, our customers, have shown us, as well as the encouragement of the entire Roswell Community.

We hope you will join us Saturday to celebrate all that was, and what will be.

With Sincerity and Gratitude, Brian and Joanna Keenan"

Meating Street is the second barbecue restaurant in Roswell to close in the past year.  Swallow at the Hollow, as well as sibling eatery Greenwood's on Green Street, closed December 31, 2017.

Given the popularity of Meating Street and its proximity to Roswell Village shopping center, that could present a relocation opportunity.  Roswell Village, once anchored by a Publix Super Market, fell on hard times and was largely vacant when an affiliate of real estate firm Sterling Organization purchased it in 2014.

This year, Sterling signed retailers ROSS and Marshalls, fitness facility Crunch, and Sarah Donuts, among others, to open in the revamped center.  Real estate sources close to the project indicate that the firm is in negotiations with a number of restaurants to open in the center, at least one of which is reportedly a barbecue restaurant.  Things change and deals fail to make to the finish line every day, so there is reason to believe, if rent were reasonable, that Meating Street could have this center on its short list.

Where would you like to see Meating Street re-open?  Are you surprised that Meating Street is closing?  Where is your favorite barbecue joint in metro Atlanta?

Not surprised in the least. A terrible location with unattractive neighbors in their tiny strip mall (Auto parts and repair) and zero parking. Was there any in-restaurant dining or was it grab and go? They also seemed to be closed frequently and during, what I would consider, peak times. They should have opened in the stand-alone location where the (soon to be closed) American Pasta Factory is. That location at least has parking, seating, and, vital for a BBQ joint, outdoor patio seats.
