[WAKE UP!] Snooze an A.M. Eatery is Opening in Atlanta!

A Colorado-based breakfast and brunch eatery has secured its first location in metro Atlanta.  Snooze an A.M Eatery, based in Denver, will open its first restaurant in Atlanta at Gateway, a mixed-use development on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs.  The restaurant, situated in a 4,000 square foot freestanding building, could open later this fall.

The new Snooze will replace Urban Cookhouse, the Birmingham-based restaurant that opened in the project in January 2016.  Although it's not yet known exactly when Urban Cookhouse will close, their space has been quietly marketed for lease since at least 2017.  Cafe Posh, which closed in nearby Fountain Oaks shopping center last year and earlier this year opened in Hanover Buckhead Village, had reportedly reached an agreement to take over the Urban space, but the deal reportedly fell apart at the last minute.  The lease with Snooze is signed.

ToNeTo first experienced Snooze in Arizona, but had the good fortune to also enjoy it in Colorado and California.  The restaurant chain, of which all 36 locations are corporately owned, is similar to concepts like Atlanta's Flying Biscuit Cafe as well as Another Broken Egg Cafe, First Watch and Egg Harbor Cafe, among others, but Snooze does a really good job of not making each restaurant feel like its part of a corporation, and instead more like they are group of restaurants under a similar theme.

"Founded by brothers Jon and Adam Schlegel, Snooze was born on April 2, 2006 in Denver, Colorado seeking to evolve the A.M. dining experience through culinary innovation, an eclectic and energetic atmosphere and comfortable and friendly service.  Breakfast marks the beginning of a new day. At Snooze, we believe life is for living  and each person and each day is worth celebrating. Our mantra: it only takes a moment to make a difference."

Snooze restaurants are open seven days a week from 6:30 AM until 2:30 PM and do not accept reservations.

The new Chastain Park area restaurant would compete with existing neighborhood offerings including Tupelo Honey Cafe, Buttermilk Kitchen and Goldberg's Bagels, among others.

Noteworthy Snooze menu items include:

Sweet Potato Pancakes – Signature sweet potato buttermilk pancakes topped with homemade caramel, candied pecans and ginger butter. (ToNeTo Atlanta's favorite)

Juan’s Breakfast Tacos - Three fresh corn or flour tortillas topped with scrambled eggs, shredded hash browns, jack cheese, green chile hollandaise & pico de gallo.

Sandwich I Am – Soft pretzel roll filled with scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese and a sausage patty, served with a side of smoked cheddar hollandaise & house hash browns.

Smashed Avocado Benny – Signature English muffin topped with fresh smashed avocado & green chili, Parmesan cheese, vine-ripened tomatoes, two poached cage-free eggs, smoked cheddar hollandaise and everything spice.

Currently the company's 36 restaurants are within four markets: Arizona, California, Colorado and Texas.  In addition to the Chastain Park location, plans call for at least five new locations in the coming months including the chain's entrance into two other new markets.

The current Urban Cookhouse at Gateway Sandy Springs
Among the five new locations are restaurants planned for Westport (Kansas City) Missouri, Plaza Midwood (Charlotte), North Carolina, and a location at Denver International Airport.

Each location specific page on the Snooze website indicates their people (managers/operators), their community partners (the organizations they support), and their purveyors (their primarily local suppliers.)  Furthermore, one percent of sales from each Snooze restaurant makes its way back into the local community through the donation of in-kind goods  (pancakes, for instance) and services.

Sources familiar with the group's plans locally indicate that they plan to open a handful of other Snooze restaurants in "core intown markets" in the coming months and years.  Future expansion would be based on the performance of the initial stores.

Have you ever been to a Snooze restaurant?  Are you excited for the addition of another breakfast & brunch option in Chastain Park?  Where else would you like to see Snooze open in metro Atlanta?

and how is this a unique place, exactly?

Let’s create more competition within our own project! Like the concept just not for the space! After initially placing 3 Mexican food based concepts all within the Gateway (the one food genre this 2 mile stretch of Roswell Road does not need more of), they all cannibalized each other and cheekys and verde closed as expected from day 1. Now, they open another direct competitor to their last anchor full service restaurant / Tupelo Honey. Breakfast/lunch focused - even both promote their “sweet potato pancakes” - so unique that your neighbor offers the exact same thing. Oh, and all that project needs to help with the daytime parking restraints is......another morning/daytime parked restaurant....are there no American bistro/neighborhood restaurants that wanted this space, which has a great patio for even live music that appeals to all the young families and couples in the area?

Sounds like another boring breakfast/brunch restaurant. Not sure what stands out especially since Tupelo is literally in the same complex.

Super excited for this. Snooze is my favorite brunch/lunch spot in the country! It's always the first place we go to whenever we visit Denver. Glad they finally made the decision to get into the Atlanta market.

I've eaten at Snooze. I've eaten at Tupelo. Snooze wins - easily. Their menu (at least the ones I've been at in AZ) have a large variety, have unique items, and are quite tasty. I consider it a step above Another Broken Egg, J Christophers, First Watch, etc. As for the person who asked if they couldn't find an American Bistro, clearly the answer is no as the property had been marketed for some time (per the article). And the American restaurant that's in the space is evidently having issues or else they wouldn't be leaving the space. As with all openings, if this one doesn't excite you, don't worry, you live in a major metropolitan area - there are literally hundreds of other options for you to dine/shop/etc. That's at least how I view it as not every opening appeals to me.

I actually liked Urban Cookout and will miss it. The development is a little weird but Tupelo is often packed when I've gone so Snooze may survive. I will check it out for sure.

I don't get the fascination with brunch places. Most are good enough but I think the food is just as good at Cracker Barrel as Another Broken Egg and much less expensive.

I’ve been eating at the original Snooze in Denver for 10+ years when I am in town, and could not be more excited for Snooze’s Atl arrival! It is really something special. It is in another league than 95%+ of our current breakfast / brunch offerings. Try it and you’ll be hooked too!

Snooze in Denver is awesome. And I think it'll do quite well in Atlanta -- but I do think it would fare better in a more intown neighborhood. It would crush in Midtown, PCM or Morningside.

It's always obvious when the paid posters come out to positively promote XYZ business. SMH

Snooze is hands down one of the best breakfast places in the country! I am so excited that they're expanding to ATL. Hoping that moving so far east, they will continue to create the same experience as in Denver.

Snooze will outdraw Buttermilk and Tupelo any day of the week. Devastating news for those two restaurants at least on the breakfast front.

Thanks to all those that have a vested interest in Snooze for the wonderful comments !!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I were paid. Just speaking the truth.

Sorry to see Urban go. I liked it. Snooze maybe a place for us unwilling to pay for an overpriced average breakfast that we have to wait in line for - Tupelo AND especially Buttermilk

I am one of your biggest fans! I discovered Snooze A.M Eatery in Denver in 2016 - ate there twice in one day. My daughter and I were in the area later in 2017 and ate there twice, including being there at opening hours before we flew out that day. I discovered you in San Diego in 2018 and during my week stay, went twice and brought friends. Fall of 2018 in Phoenix I so enjoyed your Snooze A.M. again. And I have pictures with friends from November 2019 in Denver again. Snooze AM is the best reason for conference attendance in Denver..LOL Needless to say, I am stoked that you will be coming to the Atlanta area. although I currently live in Baltimore.
I'm really hoping the COVID19 is over soon and the restaurant is up and running this fall. I suggest midtown or near the new stadium in Cobb County!

And PS to the critics that think its just another boring breakfast spot- Snooze A.M. is a brunch experience and their cocktails are New Years' Eve in a sip!
